Still no go so I will have to try resizing them to a smaller size

Do we have a button that takes us straight to the first unread post? At the moment I'm having to scroll through all the posts to get there.

You automatically get the first unread post when you click on a thread/post - doesn't this work for you?
If so you might have an issue with your browser cookies?

It did for this post Jens, but it didn't work when I tried other posts.

You know, I think it's just that my PC doesn't like me!

Cache and cookies can be dodgy after an upgrade (of the forum in this case) and until they have invalidated (usually a couple of days) you can see weird effects.
One trick to solve such problems is to load the main page of the forum and then press ctrl + r in the browser, which forces a reload of the page and ignores your cache. It's often the solution.

Worst case scenario, just empty the browser cache, but ctrl + r usually does the trick!
