I got some one shot black primer last week and today I started to prime the Flak gun. All went well for about a minute then it started to splutter a bit and stopped spraying altogether. I thought it was just tip drying so gave the tip a wipe and it seemed OK but only for a few seconds. Having decided that enough was enough I started to clean the airbrush only to find the paint had become a gooey mess inside and it took me ages to clean it, and I mean ages as some of it was so sticky I dug it out with a toothpick. So later on I thought that perhaps the .3mm needle was too small so I got out my other airbrush with a .5mm needle fitted and tried again having thinned the paint slightly with a little water but the result was the same. So, is it me, is it the paint or should I just take up knitting instead? Answers on a fully built and painted model to Useless Eustace, Scotland.
What am I doing wrong?

Andy.
No doubt you are using as you have any other Acrylic primer. It does sound strange though has to be the paint.Comment

Hope you sort it, I'm of no help as I find the airbrush a magical art that I never gave got on with, hence why I do wood and paint brush.Comment

Hmmmmm,
A very frequent problem......with a myriad of possible solutions, question is........
...... how many will you try,in which configurations, and for how long?!
This just sums up the reasons why i try and use my A/B as little as possible or even if at all, on builds where i can get away without it!
Obviously i wish you all the best in sorting out your problem though Andy:thumb2:,

Mig One shot black primer.
Indeed John, it does seem strange as I use nothing but Acrylics.
Did you have the same problem with it?
As mentioned above, it's the Mig One Shot primer and the first attempt was straight from the bottle as it says there is no need to thin. Second time I thinned it with a little water and it was just the same.
I am leaning to a bad batch.
I clean my airbrushes with water and IPA but the second attempt was with an airbrush that had been cleaned and left in it's box for over a month so I reckon any IPA would be well evaporated away.

Just had the same problem with Vallejo Metallic Gloss Primer. Sprayed OK for a bit. Refilled cup a splater dash. Changed brushes the same.
Chucked in bin new arrived to day no problem.
Speculating I wonder if I have in using the old lot & not given it a good shake every time I have used it. It has thickened at the bottom.
Now put a couple of ball bearings in the new pot & get her in doors to shake it.

Only asking Andy, but have you tried Stynylrez? My first attempts with it were not satisfactory as I had problems cleaning my A/B after use. I switched to using IPA as a cleaner and now no problems. Don't use IPA to wipe away dust etc from your kit though. It will fetch off the primer!Comment
