What type of cheap brushes?

I am now starting to get into using pigments on armour and also making dioramas. My question is what type/shape of really cheap brushes should i get?

At the moment i've been using my normal brushes but i am reluctant to use them more as i don't want to ruin them.

For things like scrubbing in pigments, overall oil washes and slapping on "mud" I have used brushes from The Works. They come in mixed packs for just a few pounds.

Alan maybe try some cheap synthetic , I see Jim has the same thought :smiling2:

Some cheapies from hobbycraft,i chop the ends down and can get as much pigment as i need on it and dob it about

Hmm need to find a Works near me then. My normal go to is evilbay lol

Al I do what Mark does, cut them down so you can apply pigments nice and easy and on the right place.

I am planning to go to the works this week, if have problems finding one locally give me a shout

I just use the old knackered brushes I end up with over time.
Pound land, or the like is a good place to look as well.

As Jim mentioned,"The Works" is a good source if there's one near enough for you to get to......

Try the kid's activity section at the supermarket - they sell packs of brightly coloured handled brushes for not a lot - almost disposable! While you're there check out poster paints & 'plasticine' - can be useful!

I've always used cheap brushes, either for rough diorama work or more delicate, precise stuff. Works for me....

'Our' shop might have a cheap range of brushes. If not, The Works is my first choice. Try and avoid a certain auction site. Most of their cheap brushes are unusable!

Just cut down a couple of your older or worn brushes

Art shops and Hobbycraft sell coarse haired artists brushes for heavily pigmented paints.

Maybe a 1/2 inch DIY paintbrush might do the trick for stippling on bases etc. Most of us have an old one kicking around that could be utilised and/or cut down if necessary.
