Pete's Me262

I'm not sure how that post above has reappeared as the latest post in this thread, but doesn't matter. Anyway, after a long hiatus I thought I'd better get some more done on this, so threw some Mr Surface at it to highlight where it needs more sanding and filling. Of course I had to fit the canopy to keep the dust out of the cockpit.

Needs more work than I thought...
Cheers

My previous post doesn't make sense, but the 16:21 one above was posted but then disappeared! Above that was a post from the first page in this thread!
I'm confused.

Well, I've not posted recently but have been able to make a small amount of progress. Wish I'd picked to build this as a bomber, as it has a much simpler camo scheme! Anyway, camo is on now.

I've left some of the masking on for now as the next step is the dreaded mottling - in 3 different colours! (Don't hold your breath, this may take some time!)

I'm confused. I thought the mottling was 3-colour (RLM81/82/02) based on the pic in the instructions:

but I just found this pic on the Airfix website (https://uk.airfix.com/products/messerschmitt-me262a-1a2a-a03090a) which clearly shows the mottling to be two-colour, RLM 81/82.

No sign of any RLM02.
So, am I reading the pic in the instructions wrongly?
Your opinions please!

Hi Pete, if you search for Me262 110956 there are photos to be found, as it was photographed after capture in 1945. To me it looks like two shades for the mottle. Up to you though, any colour photos are modern colourisation, and the black and white pictures are hard to decipher. As usual... An opportunity to get creative!

Many thanks Joe. I'd tried searching for "white 17" but hadn't thought of searching for the werknummer. Interesting that Eduard have the mottle and the splinter camo in RLM 74/75, not the 81/82 that Airfic prescribe. See https://www.asisbiz.com/il2/Me-262/...10956-captured-Lechfeld-April-29-1945-0A.html
So, it looks like whatever I use nobody can say it's wrong, so I think I'll follow my simplest interpretation of the Airfix instructions.
Might make a start later today but I have to wait for a boiler service person first.

I had the same sort of thing with my Arado AR196 float plane build, when I did a bit of research there seemed to be loads of variations in colours?

I just did some searching on line Pete and one of the guys in the know suggested that RLM 2 was only used on early Luftwaffe aircraft and never on the ME 262.

Well, I've done worse mottling, but it doesn't look too bad.

Now I need to decide which order to do the following in: clearcoat, decals, fit the undercarriage and bay doors, fit the pitot and aerials.
The wheel bays are in the underbody colour, RLM76 as recommended by Airfix. I did originally paint them in aluminium but then decided to follow the instructions - saved some masking!
