Scale Model Shop

Rehashing Hurtgen forest diorama

M10 looks amazing Wabble.Reminds me of the ancient Tamiya one i got when a shop had them as a special import when i was 17.Id got the Verlinden Diorama special and tried and failed to recreate his dioramas.

Thanks Richard... always weird replying to my name.😅 This Academy M10 and the M36 I believe is a copy of the old Tamiya mold which share the same wrong proportions as opposed to the new molds by AFV. The track links are a dead give away.
I bet you can recreate those dios now after all these years.

I wish i could Wabble. For my sins i spent the late 80s and most of the 90s hardly doing any modelling apart from the odd aircraft model.Worked long days 6 days a week and rest time was spent having a few beers. The kits are there in the stash but lacking in mojo a lot.I enjoy admiring others work and hope that it can ignite the interest. My wife says she likes me doing my figures and likes it if i do a little vignette.I Must have over 80 figures in my stash!!.Individual 54mms and boxes of Dragon figures and then there are the resin ones!!!.

I'm steering towards figures too...more relaxing.

Hi guys,
Not enough time to work on the building...bit by bit. At least the tank guys are looking cold this time.🤭
Still got new snow to add. Groundwork still halfway.

I have never experienced snow. Glad you love it.

Wabble, that is really starting to look the nuts mate.

Cracking my nuts trying to get the micro balloons to stay in place. Am coating the existing polyfilla with it. Got them from a friend. Thanks Scottie.

Hi Guys,

I missed the boat on this one. I still had six figures more to paint and some strong advice from my friends not to rush it as many details were still missing on the dio itself. The M36 Jackson wasn't even weathered. So it'll be for next year... enough time for details and the snow owl I wanted to put in. I got a silver though for my EeHaw Snake vignette and a nod from Douglas Lee that that was his favorite and he would have given it best of show...a compliment I am more proud of than the medals. The show has inspired him to do dioramas again which he has stopped for eight years already so I'm looking forward to see his new work on the judges table next year. This was mentioned in his Facebook and he posted my Monkey Ambush dio in it.

It'll take me a while to compile the photos taken at the event.

This is Douglas's book on dioramas. And he brought this piece when he last came to the show in 2019...respect.

Hi Guys, it's been more than a year since I posted this dio. The last wasn't quite finished then and if you see the accompanying image you will find missing guns and straps on some figures as well as unfinished weathering to their uniforms. Dirt on the tracks didn't quite match with the groundwork, no weathering on the second tank or tie ropes to the stowed away gear.

I did manage to submit the dio this year but again I rushed it through and not completing the back of the ruined house and lost points there. Below is a shot taken by one of the Planeteers who was there at MALCOM 2026. The difference is that I moved the road sign post to the right corner, there is more snow and everyone looks cold and fully armed. The second tank has lost it's tiger striped camo and gone for the normal white wash.

I will take some close up shots later so watch out for them, perhaps may put them up in the completed page section.

Well Wabble if a build every deserved a Dogs then this does. Matron was beside herself with the image.

Hi John, thanks for the dangly but I think it's more suited for the length it took to get to this stage. It's not really finish per say as the back of the building needs to be filled and the second tank weathered.

I took the dio outside because of its size to take some shots. Click to enlarge them if you want to see details...

The last five...

Painting them individually and not enmass helped give their different identity. Everyone got the same snow sludge. There are three walking figures that are repeated but reposed and modified. I may not touch this dio for a while now.

Cheers,

First class.

The snow landscape is very convincing. Well .... it all is but I like the ground work in particular. Well done that man.
