This will be my contribution to "Neil's Blooming Mig's everywhere GB".

The kit looks nice, but I think I'm going to be looking at other manufacturers' instruction sheets for construction and paint guidance. The Trumpeter instructions look very vague! The box is crumpled as I have had crammed away for a long while; I've been waiting for the opportunity and motivation to build it, so thanks Neil. I will be building it in the Ukrainian scheme.

Nice, good choice. I've had a few battered boxes without the actual kit being damaged, which is all that matters.

I think ICM issued their kit with that option, and no doubt the decals can be purchased. I'm not going near digital camouflage, decals or paint.

The decals sheets, including some cockpit details on the sheet hidden behind the Ukrainian and Russian markings.


The fuselage is split with top and botton sections. There is very nice surface detail, but very restrained, so I will need to be careful painting that I don't flood them. The sponge protects the points of the fuselage ends.

As mentioned, there's a bit of vagueness in the instructions, so I will also consult another manufacturer's sheet for colour and detail references.

I'm not going to be able to do much until the end of next week, so to kick things off with the MiG, I partially assembled the cockpit tub and dry fitted it to position the 10g minimum ballast that has been glued in using PVA.

I made some more progress on the Fulcrum today. For the basic cockpit colour I used Mr Color 308, a light ghost grey as opposed to the turquoise suggested by Trumpeter. According to online references the cockpit colour changed with the MiG-29.13 from the turquoise to the grey. Good enough for me, I do not trust the Trumpeter directions.

There you go. If you can, always check with reference photos of the subject you're recreating, as that often diverges, in interesting ways, from what a plan sheet might tell you
