Thanks Steve. I had my doubts about alignment of the gear legs, as they are stubs that sit directly on a base part which went in early in the build. But I needn't have worried, it's pretty sturdy and fits well.

All parts have now received a primer coat. Happy with the airframe, but one of the exhaust nozzles developed a crack which needs attention. Otherwise everything is looking good for painting
Primer has gone on well Joe.
That is looking good. Really nice clean build apart from that one pesky exhaust nozzles which is easily sorted. There is almost always at least one thing that only shows with the primer on.

Today the MiG received some pre-shading of sorts
I've used Super Silver on the exhausts, the same colour as the bits at the aft top of the fuselage (heat shields?) I will use heavily thinned burnt iron on the nozzles, and diluted shades of brown and blue on the hot sections.

Nothing much to report on the airframe. Black sprayed for the anti glare panel. The nose radome will be a dark grey
I mostly worked on the exhaust nozzles today. For the hottest section I used heavily thinned metallic blue over the super silver base, toned down with a misting of burnt iron. The nozzles themselves were painted in burnt iron, and should look okay with some brown wash. The photos have enhanced the blue, in natural light they are a lot more subdued.
The exhausts have got to be one of the most challenging parts of the model to replicate in paint Joe. Looking good though.
Thanks Steve. Agreed, the exhausts are a challenge. The nozzles probably need some blotches of blue and tan or something. I might look at some chalk pastel, or dry brush, effects later.
Pressing on, I painted the dark grey panels and masked them off for the main event
The main grey colour has been applied. The greenish colour will be next, requiring some mixing of paints to get that familiar Mig-29 shade. Quite happy with the way the pre-shading has affected the grey, I wanted a slightly used look to the paint.
I need to look at some reference photos to work out the demarcation between green and grey. Some have a harder appearance, others soft.
