discussion Chrome Parts,?

after some advice from all you car ,bike builders,


As you know,I,m mostly amour builder,


I have have this Ducati,,I will be doing,do I just leave the chrome parts ,and paint over ?


or do I,some how strip off the chrome and redo,?and if so to stripping it off,whats the best way


to go about it please,


As for the engine would be aluminum


any help greatly appreciated,

Thick household bleach will strip it in seconds.

Any seams or scratches will show up as big as mountain ridges on chrome finishes, so you'll almost certainly have to remove the existing chrome, but, as Graham says, thick household bleach will shift it easily.


You'll need some sort of metallic paint to replace it, but other guys here will know more about that. When you come to re-paint, fix the parts to a bit of sprue with a bit of superglue in a spot which won't be seen after it is fitted. That way, you'll be able to hold it securely when you paint and cover the whole surface in one go.

drop it in bleach and leave, depending on how good it is, it will be off in a few minutes....just make sure you wash it well afterwards


if you want to respray get a rattlecan of Humbrol Chrome

As the guys have pointed out, thick bleach and the chrome is gone! 


A tip that looks good is to get some aluminium self adhesive tape stick that over and you get a more true metallic look.

that sounds like a good idea,as I will still need aluminium paint for the engine as well,

Ive never used vallejo primer cos i use cheapo automotive primer and have no problems. Cant see why it wouldnt work on vallejo primer

I've never come across any instances of bleach affecting the plastic. If in doubt though,soak a bit of the sprue from your parts overnight as a test.

to leave in the bleach,
