Thanks chaps. I'm glad you like the progress.
I'll quickly bring this stage to a finish now.
Here are the scratch made add-ons.
I did make a net out of a pair of tights but when finished it looked like a dog t***! So I used some nylon weave from one of those stringy things wot holds garlic etc.
Long box thingy, net and gear, two extra deck lights and mooring rope.

Apart from the rigging and a few minor add-ons, the trawler is finished. I've left off the screw as it's not needed.
Forgot to mention I've also added some extra safety rails on the stern opp. the diddy boat.
I've heavily weathered the starboard side as this is where the net would be lifted aboard. So right or wrong, I figured it would be stained with 'fishy bits'

Don't get me wrong it's a nice kit straight from the box. Its just that being an old kit, much of the 'detail' is moulded in, so just a little scratching brings it out a bit more.

Rigging done using ezee line and UHU general purpose glue. Then painted with grey/blue acrylics.

Dave - Correct. Plus being one of the founder members of the 'Bone Idle, if I can't see it, it don't get done' Club., I saw the prop as a prime candidate for leaving in the box!

So first off. 'The Departure'
Here is the start of the harbour entrance. I know in my minds eye what I'm after so I'm just going ahead and hope something stirs in the old grey matter.......:upside::thumb2:
As always it's made from scrap polystyrene, I love this stuff. It's light, easy to cut and work into shapes, almost anything sticks to it - and it's free!
I'm building the harbour walls first. I came up with the idea of rather than having straight walls, and to make it a bit more interesting, I would incorporate a bend at the entrance.
As this will be a relatively modern harbour, I am going for concrete rather than stone for the walls.
Sometimes I get carried away with builds like this and forget to cut out the hole for the vessel first. - Not this time sweetheart!
I realise it's a narrow entrance (I've seen and navigated narrower!) but I had to make it so to hopefully make sure everything would be in the finished job pictures. As you can see, the base is made up of two pieces. The join will be hidden as the job progresses. I built up one side to add a bit of variety to the entrance.

Docks in Hull had a narrow entrance just like that. As a teenager we skipped school and went down to watch the trawlers. No drink was allowed on the boats so the crew got legless while ashore. I once saw a crew member who had not managed to get himself up in time to join his boat and was obviously still well p****d, literally thrown off the harbour entrance wall into the arms of his fellow crew mates as the boat passed, presumably by friends/relatives. Lucky he was so drunk as he landed with a hell of a thump.
