I couldn't wait to get going on this one a very large kit but not that simple as I thought but a very well laid out kit the plans are simple but self explanatory.
Unlike my GMP Bismarck it comes complete with the card so no extra to get.
And a fairly comprehensive kit which I will enjoy building.
On with the pics and today's progress.

Here's today's work slowly advancing along the hull it's more work than I thought it's not the construction it's all that cutting out.

Trust me chaps, and I'm sure Pete will confirm, they are the incarnation of the devil. The hull and superstructure are relatively straight forward. It's all the fiddly bits.... :dizzy: Isn't that right Pete?

I've built a couple. I swore, 'Never again'. Yet once you have completed one and allowed your hair to grow again (If you have any) you keep looking at them thinking "Just one more"

I've done just that, and seeing Pete have another bash has spurred me on....H.M.S. Hood on it's way!

Jim, if you really fancy a go at these kits, I made the J.S.C. MacBrayne's 'Bute' ferry on here. A sort of middle of the road kit regarding difficulty. Well recommend as a 'First go'

Well remembered. Superb set of completed photos.
Pete - this build looks to be far bigger and more demanding than Ron's but I suppose the techniques used are the same, just much more to do. Looks very neat and carefully done so far.

Started on the stern cabin walls and this is were it starts to slow a bit.

I used to make a lot of card models - mainly ships, but the occasional building. The basic structures are reasonably simple, although I always made them as waterline models - the complex curves around the stern & propellor shafts don't translate well into paper! The details are a real slog, making loads of identical ventilators, davits, lifeboats can be really monotonous.
I used to strengthen the frames with cardboard from cornflake packets ( my coworkers with kids were a great source ). I tried loads of glues, but UHU, in the yellow tubes was the one I always returned to.
I still have a fair few JSC, GPM, HMV, Wilhelmshaven unmade sheets in my filing cabinet

Great start ,Pete.
you're going to have one hell of a scalpel blister by the end, though! And get through a hell of a lot of blades!
This used to be the way I made architecture models in my job. Trouble was they would keep changing the design before I finished.
And then the bu**ers would DRAW on them:sad::fearful::flushed::tired:
It took me a while to reconcile that my models were not supposed to be works of craftsmanship but design tools.But it does rankle when you've struggled to keep the grubby fingerprints to a minimum and then they just plaster it with magic marker!
Anyway I shall be watching avidly ,and thinking 'There but for the Grace of God go I'....

The first of the full length decking has been fitted along with some cabin walls on bow and stern.
And the first piece of hull plating in place once all the hull plating is in place I will return to plastic before I forget how build it.

All plated and I now realize what I have taken on so while the glue is dry I will get on the the multitude of fittings.
