WHAT'S YOUR CHOISE OF XMAS DINNER ?

Time to admit it people. I'M A VEGETARIAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Peter,
I went vegetarian for 6 months or so - no particular reason, just to see if I could do it! Gave up in the end because I was bored with it ( OK, my cooking ain't that imaginative! ), and I missed steak & kidney!
Dave

As I don't do Xmas - or fish or fowl - I guess I'll be sticking to my usual three course meal of bread, butter and jam. I might liven up the festivities on Xmas morning though with a three course breakfast of cereal, milk and sugar - but only if I feel up to the strain of all the preparation!
Well gern. Yum yum I love jam sandwich.

I will be eating so I'm told by my brother , turkey, Brussels sprouts shirt lifters , gravy, roast tatties, parsnips, stuffing. Xmas pud with custard. Coffee. Cause I'm driving. And pulling a crackers. Then doing the washing up lol.

COR poor ole goosey get the chop at xmas if i could id tell it to make a break for it lol

Ah, Chris, (my older sons name) I do have empathy for your sentiment, but her end will be quick and humane.
If she were to make a break for it and succeed and once she left the safety of the compound she would
not last 24 hrs.

Any predator (there are many) would catch her up lickety split, and her end would be anything but
humane or quick.

Merry Christmas to you and yours from all of us.

Jim.

I request a different bird most years, and am often 'surprised' when it turns out to be turkey, again. I would love to try a goose, well it kept Bob Cratchit's lot happy enough.
A goose would be a great choice, they are kind of like large ducks and can vary greatly from source and location.
Wild geese are a totally different animal from farm raised or super market fare, just as wild turkey to "domesticated".

Basically the same cooking rules as turkey, use a thermometer and the same instructions for turkey.
I cannot control my laughter when I'm at the super market with the Missus and see the prices they charge
for a frozen goose. 50 or 60 dollars for a 12 pounder!

We have 15 to 20 pounders running around all over the place :smiling2:

They will charge £80 for a 5-6 Kg goose in the UK! I found this out to my dismay a couple of years ago when Mr Fox disrupted my usual supply.

I usually have two, one for Christmas and one for the other half of the family at New Year, but get them from a friend of a friend for a considerably more modest price. Just as well as my name isn't Croesus!

Sadly, I have had just one this year due to Covid.
