boatman's 1/72 HMS Tiger C20 build

WELL Jerry its like when you are driveing a car everything has got to be thought through a quick as possible an yes some times i can turn the model quickly but must always think an look to whats where you are turning to in case a small boat is in the way an with tiger i have no idea at the moment on how she will turn an the turning circle as with my big nimitz carrier i fitted on her 4 rudders the biggest they do in brass as the real ship has only two rudders but fearing the worst on turning i fitted the 4 ruders as i said an it was still a 20ft turning circle an yes it took about 20 ft to stop her with motors hard astern as this was a very heavy model an with her batts in it took 3 people to lift her WITH BATTS IN but i could not with my back injury but there was never any shortage of volenteers as the people there could not wait to get there hands on it an several times i had to say please be carefull where you lift her as some bits were very fragie an soon broke off if not carefull an pic below of my nimitz 4 rudders
Hi Chris, you are going great guns, that would of being hard to line up on the hull, much the same the other side, made out of styrene plastic. keep the good work up Tony

Hi Chris, thanks didn't think that was the Tiger as you say the Tiger has a different stern shape for the the flight deck, understand what you are saying about hull balance on curriers . My ships captain said the Jutlandia Sea rides well in rough seas , she has two hull wings , possible two sets , have started detailing the outer console . How are you going see you are slowing coming out of lockdown . Tony.

HELLO CHAPS another update on whats happening on her an ive finalley got to the hull painting stage an here im now trying to mark on the hull the centre line for the water line an it will give me some guidence of how far the grey pant will have to come down the hull an ive made up a gadget out of balsa wood with a pencil stickin through it so i can just pull it along the hull an give me a straight line but it was not great so had to mark out some bits by hand as its all the hull curves are very awkward to get a straight line on an i fitted on the top a spirit level so the lines will be the same height each side an well i think i mandged it in the end but this took bloomin hrs to do due to size but i love a challnge

HOORAY ive got it down to one pic on site an here all paper has been removed
an its come out reasonable but now ive got to let the paint harden for a day or so then it will be the really hard part of tryin to paint on the black water line strip so its back to the garage to do more markin out for that an then maskin up again oh i'll be bloomin glad when i get this done as its still fairly cold wheather an im lucky to be able to spray paint at all so fingers crossed i can do this black line an get it to come out out ok

Just wondering, how can you be sure that you've got the line in the right place - or is it that is where it should be, so you add ballast to sit it lower in the water (knowing me, I'd probably end up with it an inch out of the water, or under it!)

HI Gerry well with these big models you cant be sure that its the right place as remember you can scale build the model but you cant scale the water as that what the real ship floats in so ive done what i always do on my other builds an measured out the centre of the black water line from the plans an hope that its not to far out as its a big hull so plenty of boyuncy an when she in the test tank then i'll find out wheather she is sitting to high so more ballest or if to low then ive got to lighten her an she has to pass all the tests of leaks in the hull an then the anti- roll test as well so a lot still to do
but thanks for your intrest
chris

Easier to add than to lighten, obviously - if you ever need any lead, got plenty of scrap here (do a fair bit of airgunning, and clean the traps out of spent pellets - got a small ammo box full (over 20kg?)!

Chris, great to see her with some paint on. Still cool in the mornings so must be a afternoon job.

Impressive marking out by the way.:thumb2::thumb2::thumb2::thumb2::thumb2:

OH TA very much Jerry very nice of you but the batts are quite heavy an ive got plenty of lead should i need it but i hope not as its still got all the S/S to be fitted on her so thats more wheight but like i said there is still a lot that can go wrong i havnt been defeated yet on all my models but theres always a first time is'nt there so will have to wait an see what happens when she gets her bum wet
