I've been doing a lot of browsing of Model Shops worldwide over the weekend, looking for 1/48 WWII Japanese Carrier aircraft, and one model seems to show up time and time again.

Given the wide availability of this ( and the multitude for sale on ebay ) - I wonder how many of this model have been produced, since it was introduced in 1982? It's a pretty basic model, raised panel lines, very much last century!
One thing that always amuses me is the huge variation in price in GBP, from £14 to £50! not only on ebay, but in retail shops....
What is the most widely available model in LHS?
Not having set foot in a Model Shop for the best part of five years, I have absolutely no idea!!

Sorry, I meant any scale kit , and one which is commonly seen in model shops - I have no idea on which is the most produced model, I imagine it varies from country to country ( I can't imagine Airfix being a big seller in Japan, now or ever! )

Are we talking about a single boxing of a kit that has the highest production run or the most widely available - i.e. the kit you are most likely to see? It sounds like the latter in which case I'd suggest it could be the Tamiya Panzer II or Panther (original 70's mould) as I've never been in a model shop (or shop that sells models) that didn't stock them ;)

Mark,
we can't know how many of a particular model have been made ( unless the manufacturers say ), so it must be the most widely seen in model shops - I agree the Tamiya Pz. II seems to be widespread, even in my memory ( don't think I've ever made it, though ).
Yes, the original thread title did say 1/48, but I realised that was a bit too specific!
