Old pics appearing as thumbnails on some posts but not others...

    Dear all,

I have held off asking about this because I have read other posts and I understand that there is a time lag in the old forum pics being re-uploaded to the site. And I get that.

I have also held off posting on my own blog because I have been awaiting for the 'magic' to happen. It's obviously more than a bit dispiriting to have spent over a year posting on one topic only to see all my carefully edited and curated images shrivel to the size and quality of a fuzzy postage stamp!

But having looked on the site today I have come across at least one blog in the Diorama category where the pictures are all present and correct in their original size and definition.

I am hoping that this is a good news, but I would welcome reassurance, having been a member of this site for many years (and a paying supporter). Is there some sort of 'last posted first restored' policy (which makes sense if they are working backwards). Should I remain optimistic? Can anyone reasssure me?

    Thanks, Tim

I see no reason why we need to have another discussion opened about this. You have read that there is a problem and that it will be sorted out.
    How data storage works.
You make a post with a heap of text, punctuated with photo's you push the send button and that is it.
NOPE: The post gets to the server which then compresses the message by coding ALL the photos and compressing them down to about a quarter of the size (data wise) these get saved on an image server, with a code that says where it needs to go if the post gets opened.
This normally works faster than you can imagine, the system opens the text reads the image code; lets say its a tiny low res copy of the original photo, it then goes to the image server, finds the corresponding code for the full image and swaps it out with the little marker.
ALL the image files on the server are not titled, not connected to the post they belong other than by a code.
For reasons unbeknown to me the new software, on a new server could not get things to line up. So after a good dressing down by John, the software house said they will sort it. They are still trying to write a subroutine that can get the old images to go to the correct places in the posts.
To do this task manually, we have been told will take about 20 odd years.

Old posts that are showing the full size photos is due to the person that posted the thread did not upload the images to the forum but use an image server, from which they post a link to the image there.

There are now no real issues with posting images here and no reason you can not continue an existing blog. When the problem gets solved all the images that have been an issue will be just like the day they got posted the first time.

      Hi Tim,
This is sort of the latest news about the issue:
