I haven't got any experience with Sky service or windows 11, but I assume you will have to redo the installation setup of your router and that sky service...

Another one with no direct experience but I would imagine that when you get the new PC just set it up at home and it should automatically finr your old router and you should be able to connect with no problem.

Just like Peter says.. you'll just have to re-log your new PC / Laptop onto your internet network using it's name eg:' Boatmans internet' and the associated password for it eg: dofjvno87dfk@vne0riv...(or something like that.. lol)

When you fist turn on your new laptop it'll ask to connect to a network, click yes/ go and it'll search local networks..(wi-fi signals), Look for yours and click on it, it'll then ask for the password, once this is entered press connect and it'll connect and you'll be up and running again.. (after windows has spent an eternity downloading all the current updates for it...)


just had a thought... if I remember correctly . .. .your new pc or more importantly windows 11 may also come pre installed with a system to transfer the data from one pc to another..
I think it may be part of the set up procedure (think along the lines of transferring the stuff on an older phone to a brand new one)...
this could possibly save you a shed load of time transferring stuff to memory cards and copying them onto the new hard drive...

sub note.... I could also be totally wrong about this function as I'm still using a laptop I set up 6 yrs ago..( windows 10..)

I bought a new laptop last year which has windoze 11 on it, but for the life of me can't remember if it copies stuff over from old pc's.
TBH, I don't need it as I have 3 laptops, a tablet and a NAS drive all networked and stuff backs up on a regular basis.
Plus I have a USB stick with really important data on it that I back up every couple of months and is stored in a small fire safe, so even if the house burnt down, in theory I would still have most of my data, photos, music, docs, etc. 🙂

Chris, why are you feeling forced to buy another new laptop? Didn't you buy a new one just a few months ago?

HI Pete not me but im on windows 10 an have had 3 laptops in the 5 yrs since ive been back online but this one is only about 2 yrs old but it got so much junk in it an was so slow so i took it into currys to have it all wiped clean an yes they got rid of the junk thank god an its better now but still work slow an i live in a low megabyte area so that may be the reason but im goin to buy a windows 11 laptop as they are sayin that my laptop wont get anymore updates around october an then it will pack up an remember im not teck savy too old im afraid so i'll have to take it all into currys an let them sort it oh dear thanks for your reply Pete you are a good freind

Chris, your laptop won't pack up. The situation is windows 11 is no longer supported, so won't receive any automatic updates. You can carry on using your old lap top for as long as you want. True, the operating system is no longer supported by Microsoft, but loads of people are in the same situation. However, if you actually want a new lap top anyway, go for it.
Some versions of Windows 11 are already unsupported, others don't expire until 2026.

Just a thought Chris but depending on what you are wanting to use the computer for you may wish to consider a Chromebook. They are much cheaper, super fast and I believe dont need additional virus protection. I changed to a chrome book this year and love it. You should not need to be changing your lap top computer every couple of years at all so I think you may not be getting the best advice from Currys. Get currys to demonstrate a Chromebook to you before you commit to buying anything. Like I say depending on your computer needs the lap top may be your best option but if like me you just do a bit of surfing, shopping on line etc then you may wish to consider a chrome book and break away from windows. (Norton by the way is something else that can cause issues on a PC)

Chris, don't worry about Windows 11 unless you really want to. Your laptop will almost certainly run Win 11 but it'll keep working on Win 10, just won't get any updates, which you probably won't need anyway. I know some people are still using Windows '97! I#m still running Windows 10. Also I wouldn't recommend Curry's. They make their money from selling new stuff, not by giving good advice. Are there any independent computer shops in your area, or even computer clubs?
What was the junk that was clogging up your laptop? There are free programs that will remove trash from your computer - I use CCleaner.

Colin M's comment is correct IMO, but he seems to have confused 10 and 11!

I've heard some good things about Chromebooks too, but you'd need a faster internet than you seem to have, since the Chromebook storage is in the Cloud rather than on your local hard drive. I also agree with Steve that Norton can cause more problems than it cures.

Good advice Pete. My desktop runs fine on Windows 10 as well. It’s a good twelve years old now, and could do with a little more housekeeping and TLC than I give it, but it still works…..it’s got office 97 on it, which hasn’t been supported for many years, and that still works fine as well…..

OK MANY thanks guys Colin Steve Pete an Tim i'll just keep this laptop goin then an see how things go an then if i do need to buy a 11 pc then will an Pete YOU SAY what was the junk well for a starters i had 3000 cookies on it an i dont know how to get rid of them an numous junk like free adblocker as that was suppoce to be free but then they wanted 90quid a yr so what happened to the free ? nothing but rip offs they are an yes that ole norton has caused me no end of problems as i was payin to have it fitted on for a yr then i noticed on my bank statement they were takin 75 quid by auto reknewal so in effect i was payin twice an i saw this last yr an complained to my bank an they told me it was stopped an wont happen again but they again took 75 quid in october last yr so had another go at them an now my bank has stopped them doin from what i see im gettin ripped off quite a lot as im not teck savy so im whatcin out now an checkin my bank statments regalarly oh dear but thank all you guys for the info you all have given me much apprecaited as good to have you all as freinds

AN YES Pete i wish we did live closer so you could give me a hand on the tech side of these computers as i dont even know what a cloud is ? exceptin for the ones goin by overhead lol as where i live im way out in the sticks an no one to help me if i have a problem an then i just keep tryin to use it till it just breaks down an crashes as its not goin great at the moment as i use a mouse to move things an when i use the roller wheel on the mouse the pages on the screen jump up an down a lot so i have to put my mouse courser on the little bar on the right side of the puter screen an then usein the left click pull the screen down manually oh dear an ive now done a scan an ive got 23000 issuses that slowin down my puter an norton comes up sayin reslove these issuse fast but again they want more money robbin devils so i dont take any notice of them an some time i just shut the puter down an then restart but at least im still able to talk to all you guys an to me thats what matters to me

Chris, Norton has probably caused most of those "23000 issues". I would start by uninstalling Norton and telling you bank to block any attempt by them to extort more cash from you.
If you click on your Start button you should see a few small icons just above it. One of those is "Settings". Click that, and the next screen will list various things including "Apps". Click on that and it will list all the apps (Programs) that are installed. Scroll down the list until you find Norton, then click on it and there should be 2 options: "Modify" and "Uninstall". Click on Uninstall. It'll probably ask you a few times to confirm but just go ahead with the uninstall.
Let us know when you've uninstalled Norton and we can do a few more things.
