    Rick’s 1/72 Airfix Junkers Ju52 - a rite of passage build

It was really easy and quick to use and definitely better than doing it with tape and a scalpel. They’re a bit more expensive than Eduard but I bought a set of Jaguar masks too which contains masks for both GR & T bird models using my Airfix Club discount.

    Rick’s 1/72 Airfix Junkers Ju52 - a rite of passage build

I used Airfix’s bespoke paint mask set for this build - very easy to use and done in less than 30 mins.

    Buccaneer question

I’ve done two Buccaneers in 1/72 scale, one in Gulf War scheme with wings folded and an early 12 sqn grey/green over light grey with wings stead. I posed both with the airbrake open. I also have a 1/48 Bucc which I plan to do as a 208 sqn jet it wraparound camo with wings spread and air brakes...

    Tamiya GB...Rules and chat thread

I get your point and we all have different tastes. Modern military aircraft lack a certain aesthetic appeal compared to types from even the recent past perhaps. For me, the appeal of the 1/72 F-35A in Danish markings is the discrete but eye catching roundel and fin flash. For the F-35C it’s...

    Tamiya GB...Rules and chat thread

I’m quite keen to do the F-35C actually…or the F-35A in a Danish Air Force scheme I have on an Xtradecal sheet.

    Rick’s 1/72 Airfix Junkers Ju52 - a rite of passage build

Back from Canada and got some bench time. The moulding of the corrugated fuselage is amazing. The sides are taped in this first photo before gluing. Now with glue along the seam line and secured with tape the join is virtually invisible. But the tolerance is small so care and patience is...

    Kc 135 stratotanker

I make my own from Humbrol liquid poly and cut up sprue. Chuck some bits of sprue into the poly and it dissolves into a thick filler. Adjust the amount of sprue for thickness- hey presto you saved a few bob.

    The Football Thread

I’m a life long Rangers and Scotland fan. I’ve lived in many different places and am a firm advocate of supporting (different to being a fan) your local team if you can. I’ve cheered on Toulouse, Aldershot, Farnborough, Elgin, Forres, Tranmere and just lately Ashville. Some of the best games...

    Rick’s 1/72 Airfix Junkers Ju52 - a rite of passage build

Made a start. Lots of detail and a great fit. One gripe is the sprue gates to the engine nacelles, big, chunky and a pain to sand to profile. I still have the IP to do before joining the fuselage sections - all four of them.

    Worst /best kit you’ve built.

The Eduard Mig-21 or Airfix Sea King, both in 1/48 are superb. I have a Tamiya F-35C which has rave reviews in the stash. The 1/24 Revell Trabant was equally as awful as the real thing.

    Latest Acquisitions (2026)

IPMS Stoke haul. Sometimes I do a bit of model making in the living room but the smell of TET gets complaints from my ladies; so I thought I’d try the low odour stuff. The truck is to go with my Ju52, the CBLS for my Buccaneer and the T-Rex is for my daughter.

Rick’s 1/72 Westland Wessex HC.2, No.2 Flying Training School, Royal Air Force Shawbury

Thanks for all the comments Another point I didn’t mention is the kit doesn’t have a pitot mast included. I used plastic rod and drilled a hole (see notes in my notebook). In hindsight I should have use wire because the plastic rod doesn’t quite have a right angle.
