Choosing a kit from your childhood

Ooh, even better! The frameable boxtop series was really quite extraordinary in it's range of subjects!

    Tamiya 1/20 Tyrrell P34 #20053

Noice. Have to remember that one, if ever..!

    Tamiya 1/20 Tyrrell P34 #20053

The P34 did race a full season in 1976, and actually came first in one race. One problem with it was tyre changes in a race. Other teams did do paper studies for six-wheelers, but none were built. Changes to the car for the 1977 season made it much heavier and therefore uncompetitive, so the...

Choosing a kit from your childhood

The old Airfix 1/32 Dennis Fire Engine you mean? Not too pricey now But Airfix might still 'Vintage Classics' it some time!

Choosing a kit from your childhood

Do you mean the Revell re-box of the Matchbox job? The one that has silly money prices on eBay? Still got two built in my wargames tray...

Aliens M577 Armoured Personnel Carrier 1/35

You are quite correct, and quite correct!

Aliens M577 Armoured Personnel Carrier 1/35

Interesting The only other APC kit I'm aware of is the old Halcyon one from waaay back in the day. That was 1/35. There was an interior set put out at the time. The problem was, the interior as seen in the film does not fit inside the shell of the vehicle, as the film set ignored the size of...

Choosing a kit from your childhood

First kit I ever finished and painted, with help from my big brother, was the Airfix Fw.189. Been hankering to revisit that recently Aand, as a nostalgia fest, I've just finished collecting all (but the Panzer III) the Matchbox tank kits, in whatever packaging was cheapest. I made such a hash...

1/8 Commander Kate Shepard (Mass Effect Trilogy)

The black is just rattle can Halfords undercoat, with different gloss or semi-gloss oversprays. Oh, and some grey spotting to look like carbon-fibre on the catchlight Some game characters are just too detailed for HD, and Shep is from 2012!

How to paint "white metal" figures?

Yeah, got those too. Hmm, three undercoated or part-painted samurai armies, Finnish Winter War Platoon, Greeks, Danes and Norwegians I have too many figures (you can never have too many!)

Help required in sourcing some sitting figures.

Look for railway figures. Plenty of seated figures in many ranges, almost too many to mention; not just civilians but vehicle crews. O Gauge I think is roughly 1/50 Preiser do an eight figure seated fire crew, including driver, but I think they're actually a German crew

1/8 Commander Kate Shepard (Mass Effect Trilogy)

Blimey. Kate is getting a lot of attention suddenly!

How to paint "white metal" figures?

Quick wash cleaning (soapy water style) and an undercoat are always my go to. Black, white or grey undercoat depending on how bright, or not, I want the figure to be God, I have so many dozens and dozens of figures all sprayed white...

1/8 Commander Kate Shepard (Mass Effect Trilogy)

Ah, you see, Shepard's first name is whatever you want it to be, right from character creation where you can set background. Each one of my six-or-seven different Sheps (depending on character class) have a different first name, so I can tell them apart. Even though it says whether they're...

    ISU-122 Tank Destroyer........ Ogonek 1/30

I guess it's impossible not to fix the upper hull, so that you could maintain access to the motors and such?

    What did I agree too!

I'm finding this fascinating for such an old kit, what it has regarding detail, or doesn't have, how it goes together and such The biggest surprise here, with the close-up pictures, is how understated the surface detail, compared to contemporary rivet-fests!

    Academy 1/72 Grumman F6F-3 Hellcat

Sometimes it's just good to do a kit that goes together at a pace And that's quite a lot of cockpit for a quick 1/72

1/8 Commander Kate Shepard (Mass Effect Trilogy)

Liara is next and Garrus is undercoated, but I have to make new guns for them both. Still hoping to get an Ashley Williams figure, though the only ones available are ME3, and there's no Kaidan at all. Jack and Miranda should get a look in too, probably Maybe

1/8 Commander Kate Shepard (Mass Effect Trilogy)

That, is very kind of you. Wow. Best compliment I've received Yeah, the Omni-blade took a lot work, but you can tell it's not generated because the lines are so wobbly! Now, doing Liara's biotics may be a problem as I don't have any clear blue sheet. Tali'Zorah's visor will be 'fun', but at...
