    What's on the Bench 2025

    Nice job on those 👍

Scale indicator, which way is correct? eg: / or :

I end to use both interchangeably, mostly because I simply don’t think about it. However, as I usually do figures my go to is mm……

    Pledge, still used for canopies?

The big thing it had going for it was that it was hard wearing. I believe Johnson’s discontinued it, and all the variants, some of which were identical to the so called “original” formula, a few years ago anyway. Comes down to it, how shiny are Perspex canopies anyway when seen “in the round”?

    Pledge, still used for canopies?

Personally I’ve never got on with pledge. I use Tamiya polishing compounds to give them a glass like shine. I do the same on car windscreens on the rare occasion I build them. I do use pledge on my little gaming blokes as a first varnish though. It’s extremely hard wearing and protects the...

    1/32 Revell 1956 Cadillac Eldorado

Nice one Jim. That kit was older than me LOL….

    Steven’s 1/48 Spitfire Mk.IIa

This is coming on really nicely Steve. The base is a great touch that will lift your build above the norm. In my experience the Eduard decals are among the best out there. They settle well, are just the right strength to handle nicely without creasing or tearing, and are excellent for...

    Brushes.

This brush cleaner is your friend. Buy it, and learn to use it properly on cheaper specimens before you spend out on expensive brushes 😁. Using this, and despite painting most days, I can get at least three years excellent service out of Raphael 8404 or W and N series seven sable brushes. Even...

    Anyone else collect Fridge Magnets?

Very nice. Lovely commemorative set. Always liked the idea of doing a Citroen in FFI colours like that……Why is the top left hand one upside down though?

    Tamiya Schwimmwagen 1/35

Thanks for the SBS. It was the graining that got me….very effective. Looks like your technique is a modern take on oil scumble then. Nice one 👍. I always struggle with graining using acrylic paint so have always left it off. The sepia wash is a nice touch. When I do wood props or struts...

    Anyone else collect Fridge Magnets?

Large collection there 👍. We used to have a few, including a fridge magnet poetry set I got for my daughter (who promptly turned it into a picture of a cat) when she was young, but after we moved our fridge is now integrated into the units so they’d need to be wood magnets…

    What's on the Bench 2025

Good looking stuff on here, and it’s great to see it all, but didn’t we have a 2026 thread? This one is from 2025.

    HELP

In my experience Ian, it’s not twisting that causes the problem, it’s the arms of the tweezer being bowed inwards, turning them into devices to launch parts into the atmosphere. Plenty here Chris, don’t need to cost the earth…...

    HELP

I put a scrap of blue tack in mine, or just use blue tack on a wood cocktail stick instead of tweezers. The problem I find with tweezers is that it seems logical to squeeze them harder to get better grip, but that doesn’t work. The harder you squeeze, the more energy you put into them, and the...

    Tamiya Schwimmwagen 1/35

Lovely job Andy, with your usual quality finishing. Of particular note (to me) is the wood effect on the paddle. That’s excellent work, and a minor SBS on how you did it would be most enlightening…..

    thinking of getting this

The wife of a good friend of mine calls hobby spending “Sanity money”. It gives you joy in what can sometimes be a miserable world, keeping you sane. If you can afford it, then just pull the trigger. As long as it doesn’t mean you have to go without things like food or heating where’s the...

German Jagdpanzer VI - AliExpress No Name special - 1/144 scale.

Nice little model. If you do need decals, Pendraken do them here..along with a wide range of vehicles and figures that would work with it… https://www.pendraken.co.uk/scale-specialties-10mm-vehicles

Eduard overtrees, am I in the minority?

I’ve neve4 done it, but do appreciate the idea. In effect, a Profipak leaves quite a lot of spare decals, so buying a set of over trees gives you a cheap weekend kit. What’s not to like?

    Preventing rust in compressor tank

For those that don’t know…… Compressor tanks are usually made from mild steel. Mild steel, in conjunction with moisture and oxygen, will rust. All air holds moisture. When you compress air it warms up, and will then hold more moisture. When you draw off compressed air the resultant pressure...
