    Rick’s 1/48 Airfix Sea King HAS5

Some more sub assemblies. The main landing gear is nicely rendered with torque links and mooring shackles to add individually, the shackles could be posed with tie downs if desired I guess. The blade sock tie down loop is solid so I drilled this out. The gear down indicator brackets are a bit...

    Rick’s 1/48 Airfix Sea King HAS5

My course notes aren’t explicit, but they suggest only the pilots collective has the friction device...as if. It is a massive issue.

    Rick’s 1/48 Airfix Sea King HAS5

Another neat touch is the screen wash nozzles moulded on too.

    Rick’s 1/48 Airfix Sea King HAS5

I had a closer look - it’s there, just tricky to see.

    Rick’s 1/48 Airfix Sea King HAS5

I’ve assembled all of the interior role equipment racks. Next step is chucking some paint on it. This kit uses an internal “shell” to house the cabin interior and there are very shallow ejector pin marks that I hope will be hidden behind the consoles etc. Other marks may use the troop seats to...

    Rick’s 1/48 Airfix Sea King HAS5

Some more shots of the surface detail, the more I look the more is see. The tail fold bulkhead is detailed very nicely, look at the disconnect coupling (DCC) engagement cone, splines, unlock flag and tail rotor control rod bell crank! Beautifully recreated. The mesh over the tail rotor...

    Rick’s 1/48 Airfix Sea King HAS5

It doesn’t look like it has the rotor brake handle but it does have something resembling throttles and fire extinguisher handles.

    Rick’s 1/48 Airfix Sea King HAS5

The way Airfix have designed these parts to ensure positive engagement and trueness is such a bonus to modellers. The relief on the control panels is just awesome. I’ve dry fitted the IP and seats here to demonstrate the detail.

    Rick’s 1/48 Airfix Sea King HAS5

@Waspie - what’s all the stuff by the tail wheel circled?

    Rick’s 1/48 Airfix Sea King HAS5

And my progress so far. The IP and console are super detailed and include the tail wheel lock and parking brake handles. The broom cupboard aft of the cockpit is also detailed including the relief (pee) tube. I haven’t glued the seats onto the deck yet, I’m using the locating holes as a jig...

    Rick’s 1/48 Airfix Sea King HAS5

And why am I convinced there will be a HAR3/3A & HC4? The HAR3/3A is the RAF yellow variant. There are domed observation windows, two pressure refuel points - one below and one aft of the cargo door. The refuel point aft of the door is suitable for both marks. A blanking plate is provided for...

    Rick’s 1/48 Airfix Sea King HAS5

Sprue shots etc. I’m building version B; medium sea grey over camouflage grey.

    Rick’s 1/48 Airfix Sea King HAS5

I’ll be starting this tonight, in the boring grey scheme. Although the red & grey is quite eye catching I’d prefer a Gannet based cab when decals can be located. A quick look in the (jam packed) box has got my tail wagging. Moulded in the new harder plastic the detail is superb. It’s clear...

    Just arrived.

    Latest Acquisitions (2023)

Two kits from Rubicon Models both in 1/56 scale. I’ve always wanted to do a Vietnam War Huey. The RAF Rescue launch is a trip down memory lane from the time I used to build with my dad. And finally, following a tip from a fellow club member I’m going to try this stuff.

    What's on the Bench 2023

Just finished today and taken to model club. Hopefully it will be on the club stand at the IPMS Stoke show this August bank holiday weekend. And a clear bench for Airfix’s 1/48 Sea King due anytime soon. I’ll post better photos in a completed models thread soo.

    Morayvia

I spent an hour or so at Morayvia at Kinloss barracks today, well worth a visit but check their opening times online. I was surprised to see a Royal Navy Phantom on site.

What flew over your house (yesterday)

A P-8 Poseidon doing rollers at Lossiemouth.

    What's on the Bench 2023

Lights all connected and still working, not bad for a club fisted rigger.
