    Lockheed T33A 'checker'

Wensleydale, surely? Ha! Not sure I'll get this one done in 24hrs, I have to go out for a few hours soon. Got the top coat on, very little contrast, what I'd usually do is mask off areas and spary with matt varnish, really helps with making it look more interesting. The canopy needs a little...

    Lockheed T33A 'checker'

I wasn't happy with the Humbrol MC11 'orange facings' which I think is a Napoleonic figures colour? So, out with the airbrush, the colour density isn't good, this is a result of at least ten coats! The canopy is fixed with PVA white glue, this is so maybe at a later date I can remove it and...

    Lockheed T33A 'checker'

Gap filling and surface prep completed and primer applied, polished aluminium applied to landing gear doors Reminds me of how I used to build as a teenager Miko (about ready for a kip!)

    Lockheed T33A 'checker'

Thing goes together really well considering it's age and flash, but once cleaned up it's needs the slightest hint of filler. I'm leaving the nose cone off for now to add ballast later, no one like a tail sitter (except warbird entusiasts!) Now for a well deserved. . . Miko (biscuits are...

    Lockheed T33A 'checker'

Deflashed and cleaned up the parts, considering there's just thirty I'm sure I can work out which bit goes where after taking from the sprues Very little detail in the cockpit just rudimentary seats and instrument panels, not even a joystick! So best to get it as matte black as possible, the...

    Lockheed T33A 'checker'

Go! The sprue cutting has begun, lots of flash considering the age of the kit, the mold goes back a couple of decades before this early eighties pressing. No too much colour on this one, but I'm using Humbrol enamels, so drying time is critical! Miko (against the clock!)

    Lockheed T33A 'checker'

I reckon I can build this one in a day. . . This is it! seven stages and about thirty pieces. Miko (I'm off to limber up and do some pre build yoga! Ha! squeeze some tubes stir some paint fix a new blade in the Xacto!)

    Keeping missus Miko happy

At the moment my modelling space is a simple IKEA 'Lack' coffee table under the window in the lounge, this can be irksome to 'she who must be obeyed' having what she calls 'all you clutter' in our living space, so, I needed to think more aesthetically, gone are the cardboard boxes and clip top...

    Weirdest thing. . . . ever!!

This is beyond strange, I'm sifting through the stash looking for inspiration and I find this. . . an Amodel Yak 28L , I got this to build as a pilot trainer at 'Shimoji Island' airbase in 2024 from from the anime series 'Stratos 4' (2003) You remember the Airfix TSR2 MS also from Stratos...

    DH115 Vampire

Built at de Havilland’s Broughton factory in January 1956, this was the Vampire imported into Japan for evaluation in August of that year. Already withdrawn from active operations in January 1960, the aircraft was used for PR/recruitment purposes at SDF exhibitions, which included being parked...

    Airfix DeHaviland Vampire T.11

I've probably built more Airfix kits in my modeling lifetime than all the other manufacturers put together, as a kid Airfix were synonymous with the entire genera of plastic model kits to me. Since their renaissance a quite few years ago with their bold red boxings I've had mixed feelings about...

    JASDF F-014 APW

Not including the wait for paint this one was done in a week, which goes someway to commend this Hasegawa classic dating from 1989, smooth build no issues, one nitpick is with twelve different marking options the decal instruction we're a little confusing in places, but, the thirty five year old...

    How do you decide . . .

. . . on which kit to build next? I like to link my next build to my ongoing nearly complete build, it's not always obvious but there's a connection, could be the subjects operator, manufacturer or role. . . it just kind of make sense of my modelling universe! As the JASDF F-104 built is soon...

the kit you aspire to most!

Not sure if there's a similar thread here in this forum but here goes! I mean the kit you need to build before you die! The one kit you've always wanted but never managed to find or it was too expensive, you didn't have the room it's too complex to build or beyond your skill set. . . Mine for...

    Hasegawa F-104J Starfighter

White wings the nose cone and canopy masked, best get some aluminium paint on the fuselage and tail! Masking for me was always a chore, so much so I'd take a fine paint brush and with a steady hand negate the need for masking! It's a bit more tricky now I have an airbrush and a not so steady...

    Why is eBay evil?

Hey Dave, I hope you're okay with using your message, it does speak for many who hold your position Isn't this a bit of a false analogy and a little unfair? There isn't really such a thing as an eBay price, they vary widely for the same item, I and I'm sure many of you have had some brilliant...

    Latest Acquisitions (2024)

An eBay purchase gets me a 1981 vintage 1/72 Hasegawa Lockheed T33A The instructions read 'made in Japan and packed by AA Hales of Liecestershire' . . . . which is nice. . I paid a bit more than ten times this much! Interestingly 'Cheltenham Model Center' still exists with the same phone...
