Bowcat's 1/35 Tamiya King Tiger for Simon

Cheers guys. :) Finished off the camo last night, although I still have to paint the dots. The paintwork is quite patchy, I really struggled with the Mission Models paint. Admittedly I have had it a little while, but I wish I'd bought the Hataka lacquer set instead. So, dots next, and some...

Bowcat's 1/35 Tamiya King Tiger for Simon

Morning chaps. :) I got the last of the PE bent to shape and fitted last night, this was mainly just the clamps for the tow cables. With these installed I was also able to get the mudguards & fenders fitted, which are precariously stuck in place with CA. I wonder how many times I will knock...

Bowcat's 1/35 Tamiya King Tiger for Simon

Morning chaps. :) I've had quite a productive weekend. The new pins arrived and I was able to finish and install the tracks. I tried burnishing fluid for the first time and I'm reasonably happy with the results. There were a quite a few areas on the outer tracks that didn't take, not quite sure...

Bowcat's 1/35 Tamiya King Tiger for Simon

Morning guys, I've been working on the tin work some more, both front and rear mudguards are now complete and I have finished one of the side skirts. This went together fairly well, I was just careful to make sure all the angles were the same before gluing the pieces together (I didn't dare try...

Bowcat's 1/35 Tamiya King Tiger for Simon

Cheers guys. Started some of the PE over the weekend, brackets for the jack, jacking blocks, etc. Also removed the sprocket guards and glued the upper hull to the lower. I also started work on the PE rear mud guards and decided to push my skills and try soldering for the first time. Now...

Bowcat's 1/35 Tamiya King Tiger for Simon

Morning guys. :) I got a little bit more done on this last night. I sanded the seams on all the wheels and added the hubs. Not particularly interesting so I didn't take a pic. Then it was on to the first bit of Zimmerit, the rear panel. This involved hacking off the existing details as it was...

Bowcat's 1/35 Tamiya King Tiger for Simon

Morning chaps. :) I made a start on this last night. I decided to ease into it by building the motorcycle first, then it was on to the wheels and lower hull.

Bowcat's 1/35 Tamiya King Tiger for Simon

Morning chaps, I didn't know Simon although enjoyed his builds. I understand he was a fan of German armour so have decided to build this. This was a kit I bought as a job lot a couple of years ago. Upon opening the box I found that it came with quite a few extras. I can't say there will...

    COMPLETED - Bowcat's Fly 1/32 Hurricane Mk 1

Hi Guys, I'm very pleased to say that I am done with this hateful kit. I thought I'd include this pic of my home made canopy. It's pretty crappy (much like the rest of the kit) but is my first ever attempt at vacuforming so I'm kinda proud of it. And here she is on the shelf next to her...

    Bowcat's Fly 1/32 Hurricane Mk 1

Morning guys, Decals are now on, luckily this isn't a modern jet so there weren't too many. Surprisingly for this kit the decals were pretty good, very thin with minimal carrier film. I did mess one up and had to leave it off but overall I'm happy with the result. These have been glossed over...

    Bowcat's Fly 1/32 Hurricane Mk 1

Morning guys. :) It's been quite a while since the last update. Without boring everyone with details, this kit has continue to be a massive PITA and I have resisted the urge to launch it across the room on numerous occasions. :( Rather than continue to blog my misery I've just put my head down...

    Bowcat's Fly 1/32 Hurricane Mk 1

Morning guys. :) The wing fun continues. I now have them attached to the airframe, but as expected they were an awful fit. I managed to get them tacked on, but the cross section of the wings is smaller than that of the wing roots, so plenty of filler was needed. There's a step either side...

    Bowcat's Fly 1/32 Hurricane Mk 1

Morning guys, Been quite a while since my last post. I had moved on to the wings which took an entire week to complete. As usual there were no locating pins, but the biggest issue is it seems that the mold halves were off by a millimetre or so when the kit was made. None of the cut-outs or...

    Bowcat's Fly 1/32 Hurricane Mk 1

Thanks Joe. :) I got to work on the gear bay over the weekend. This is provided in resin and involves removing a large resin block on the bay roof. It needs to be thinned enough to fit in under the cockpit, but without breaking through the roof. This involved careful filing and sanding, holding...

Tamiya 1/35 M1025 High-Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (Humvee)

Hi Guys, A little side project I knocked together while I was waiting for parts for my BoB GB build. This will eventually be on a base with my other desert armour.

    Bowcat's Fly 1/32 Hurricane Mk 1

Morning Chaps. :) Finally back under way with this build. Never did receive the Sutton harness from RB (in fact PayPal reclaim now started) so I got a HGW set instead. This has now been installed in the seat, and the seat in the cockpit.

    Bowcat's Fly 1/32 Hurricane Mk 1

Morning guys, I've finished painting, detailing and weathering the cockpit, seat and framework. I decided to do the seat and frame in bare aluminium to give some contrast against the side walls. The metal paint look really rough in the pics, but I think it's just the flakes in the paint...

    Bowcat's Fly 1/32 Hurricane Mk 1

Afternoon guys. :) Work continues on the cockpit with the side walls, seat and rear armour. Fly provides a featureless flat piece of PE for the head armour, so I discarded that and attempted to make by own. It's not great, but better than the kit version and hopefully will look better under...
