Steven's The legend of Zelda, 3D printed figure

Hi guys, The 3D model came with a nice base (pedestal), but the parts were too big for my 3d printer. So now I’ll have to make something similar from scratch… I started by cutting a disk from scrap mdf (18mm, ¾”). I used a router to bevel the edge. In the game there was a stone that...

Steven's The legend of Zelda, 3D printed figure

Thanks Steve and Jim, I started using oil paints for drybrushing and shading, I'm more of an acrylic user so I'm out of my comfort zone... I've put the main colors onto the cardboard to drain the oil, mixed the yellow with tiny bit of blue to get the green, then added white to lighten the...

    What's this tool used for?

Seems like something to wrench open things like a watch? (Upper right) Edit: Andy posted same time, makes sence indeed for snap together kits 👍

Steven's The legend of Zelda, 3D printed figure

Thanks John 🙏 Still working on the base colors, tried to paint some wood inside the shield to break up the gray, painted more details, some fingers as well, The white is starting to cover, took a few layers and will probably have to tone it a bit down again with a gray wash, Painted all...

Steven's The legend of Zelda, 3D printed figure

Thanks guys, Still blocking in the colors with thin layers of acrylic paint, it's a bit of a struggle to get decent coverage so it taking me a long time, Also repainted the contour of the shield in silver, the red needs more layers cheers 🫡

Steven's The legend of Zelda, 3D printed figure

Hi guys, Have been working a bit on the figure this week, first filled all the drain-holes with putty, Here I dry-fitted the parts to give you an idea of the scale, I primed the parts with a spraycan (also gray), then used the airbrush for a few base colors, A lot of details need to be...

    Latest Acquisitions (2024)

Some small bits... I'm always using Micro-Sol, so will try out Mr Mark Softer as I think it's a bit stronger? Also got some Abt.502 oil paints, but the middle one is actually an acrylic(!) didn't know they had an acrylic range so will have to look better next time. Cheers

1:48 - HobbyBoss - P-47D Thunderbolt Fighter - 85804 Hi guys, I finished the P-47D, an inexpensive but rather nice fitting kit. Some modifications were done (link to build topic) : - 3D printed pilot, engine and spinner. - Guns made from needles - Landing gear was made gear-up - Tried a...

    Hobby Boss - P-47D - 1/48 (Steven)

Spinning propeller The kit comes with a nice propeller, but it's the wrong one... The 'pitch' of the propeller blades changed during flight to compensate things like air-density, diving, climbing etc... Left : The kit prop is a "Curtiss Electric", the pitch angle was changed with an electric...

    Hobby Boss - P-47D - 1/48 (Steven)

Thanks for the kind words guys! This week I did lots of small work on the P-47, so here's an update... I forgot to improve the solid navigation lights on the wings, so I used a small file to remove the plastic, then based on a reference image I glued a small piece of stretched-sprue which...

    Hobby Boss - P-47D - 1/48 (Steven)

Thanks guys! I added some grass tufts to the base with the bristles of a paintbrush, then sprayed it with black Vallejo primer… In my enthusiasm I forgot to pre-shade with white (zenithal highlight), so I had a hard time adding lighter colors… Then it started to look too saturated...

    What's on the Bench 2024

It's a shame to admit, but I've never cleaned my airbrush behind the trigger-seal... The seal should have been replaced about 2 years ago, but I've kept ignoring it because the airbrush still was able to spray paint... But lately I had more and more troubles (with the vms varnish etc) so...

    Hobby Boss - P-47D - 1/48 (Steven)

Thanks guys! Did some work on the base (disk), I was planning to spray it brown and be done with it, but pilots like Francis Gabreski did fly extremely low during battles, The low flying gave me the idea to add a bit of groundwork to the base, something like a farmer’s field, So I made a...

    Hobby Boss - P-47D - 1/48 (Steven)

Thanks for the comments, still working on this 🙆‍♂️ I added a black panel line wash (Tamiya). I cleaned the model with turpentine and later sprayed a matt varnish (Vallejo) over it to start weathering with oils next time… For the base I’ll probably use this wooden disk (ikea)...

    Hobby Boss - P-47D - 1/48 (Steven)

Thanks for the comments! This week I sprayed a gloss varnish before starting with the decals, I used 'Vallejo Gloss Polyurethane Varnish' which turned out more like a satin finish... This is the decal sheet (2 options), The decal-instructions are very poor, large decals like N° 4, 10, 35 are...

    Hobby Boss - P-47D - 1/48 (Steven)

I Forgot how much time it takes to mask invasion stripes, it took me a few hours to get to this stage! Next I added more masking to spray the ‘red’ nose, wing root and rudder. To get a bright red I first sprayed a thin coat of ‘White’, followed by a thin coat of ‘Yellow’, and then a final coat...

    Hobby Boss - P-47D - 1/48 (Steven)

Hi guys, I wasn’t happy with the paintwork, so I decided to over-spray the model with Vallejo ‘olive drab’ primer and a coat of ‘US dark green’... Next I tried to replicate the ‘gray mottling’ from the black & white reference images, but that looked only like it was ‘bad airbrushed’ in the...

    Hobby Boss - P-47D - 1/48 (Steven)

Hi Steve, Forgot to show the instructions image indeed, I picked the 'Francis Gabreski' scheme (2nd option in the kit) I just found another version of the same scheme, I'm thinking of overspraying the model in green and start over, I like this new image better: Thanks and cheers,
