    Latest Acquisitions (2023)

I took my TR4A to a car show/autojumble today, and somehow these found their way into the car: Yes, the boaty boys have corrupted me! Revell 1:144 Hurricane for a quid. I don't often buy hard copy books, but this seemed too good a bargain to miss. Total outlay £11.50! Oh, I did buy a few...

    Bird Watching a Relaxing Hobby

A few more: And some from around the garden: Hybrid tea rose "Rachel", which was my mother's name, and her grandmother's. The most scented rose I know of. Millie. 14 next week, but might not get to 15 due to kidney problems. The climber has more flowers than leaves! The figs are looking...

    Bird Watching a Relaxing Hobby

SWMBO and I sitting at the patio table this morning and joined by a robin. At one time there were two of them but one was startled and flew off before I could get my phone out. Pete

    Desert Stuka

Masking removed, there's quite a lot of touch-up needed: Pete

    Desert Stuka

OK, re-masked and sprayed the RLM70. Also sprayed the spinner; Not sure how well that looks. I might just overpaint it in RLM70. Also painted the prop, smaller bombs, and the big bomb: Sorry, I lost the photo of the prop, but you can just see part of it peeking out from under the starboard...

    Desert Stuka

Slow progress is better than no progress! Needs some RLM70 schwartzgrun, perhaps tomorrow. Pete

    Desert Stuka

Struggling with a really bad dose of hay fever, but I managed to get the underside masked and a coat of Sandgelb on the topside. Pete

    Desert Stuka

Aargh! Started masking the underside, had to reposition a piece of masking tape, and this happened: I'm not having any success with paint recently, it must be something I'm doing wrong, but what? This was Vallejo Model Air, no primer. The only thing I can think of is that I'm laying the paint...

    Desert Stuka

The masking mojo made a brief visit today, so I got the canopy masked - sorry, lost the photo - and splashed some Vallejo RLM65 on the underside: I'll let that dry overnight and mask up tomorrow so I can start the topside with a coat of RLM79 Sandgelb. Pete

    Desert Stuka

Well, that'll do for today: The rearmost part of the canopy looks a bit too wide, but the one at Duxford is about the same. I'm not in a masking mood tonight, maybe tomorrow. Last time I built one of these I think I used pre-cut masks, but I was too mean to order any this time around. Pete

    Desert Stuka

Apologies for the lack of updates folks, it's been a bit hectic here, what with getting a puncture (unrepairable - £££), visits from the grandkids, the garage got flooded by overflowing drains, the cat's been ill, the washing machine blocked up, then, this morning, the kettle packed in! Anyway...

'A Gentleman in Khaki' - Boer War Soldier

Invented perhaps by this guy: Photo I took at a work meeting in Desenzano. Pete

    Desert Stuka

A bit more done: Starting to look like an aircraft now! Note that I've used no filler at all on the wing root to fuselage join. I have filled a couple of seams underneath the wings, in line with the undercarriage legs - there should be visible seams, but not quite as wide as these came out...

    Desert Stuka

I've been distracted by various domestic things for a few days, but managed to get the cockpit finished and the fuselage closed up: Excellent fit, as expected. Just needed a tiny spot of Mr Dissolved Putty on the seam. Pete

    Desert Stuka

Now my Vampire is off the bench (thankfully) I need a nice straightforward build. I've built the new tool Airfix Stuka before, as part of the Dogfight Double, so I know it goes together well, and this was gathering dust in the stash: You might notice that I spared no expense getting this one...

    Bird Watching a Relaxing Hobby

This little fella was watching as I photographed my Vampire this afternoon. One of three that come to our patio hoping for some mealworms. Pete

    Pete's Vampire T11

After a series of dramas, here it is, finished: I got the code decal under the port wing in the wrong place, so the 'hole' for the landing light is a bit out of place with the moulded-in light, and I couldn't get it to slide, so I painted the hole in the decal silver. On a more positive note, I...

    Pete's Vampire T11

Well, it was going to go in the bin, but I just couldn't bring myself to chuck it away - after all, I did splash out £3.99 on it! I wasn't able to sand off all the damage to the plastic caused by the a/b cleaner, and some of the aluminium paint had come off with the masking tape, but the decals...

    Save Arthur Scarf's Victoria Cross

If anyone is in a position to make a donation - even a small one - plead do. We need to keep this VC in the UK. https://www.rafmuseum.org.uk/blog/arthur-scarf-victoria-cross/?utm_source=sendinblue&utm_campaign=Help_Save_The_Scarf_VC_III&utm_medium=email Thanks Pete

    Pete's Vampire T11

It did - partly. Stopped it coming off on my fingers, but when I removed the masking patches of the silver came off as well. With hindsight, that was bound to happen wasn't it. Also a bit of the fluo orange came off as the tape lifted the silver underneath. I think I won't try to touch it up...
