    Tamiya F-16CJ Block 50 1/72 scale

Ok, in the best Blue Peter tradition, "'here's one I made earlier".... 😀😀😀😀

    Tamiya F-16CJ Block 50 1/72 scale

A few shots of my just completed F-16C. Hand painted with Vallejo, AK and Italeri acrylics. Built OOB apart from cockpit details from Kelik and brass/resin exhaust from Eduard. A really nice kit that went together very well.

    Gary's 1/72 Tamiya F-16 CJ Block 50

Almost finished! Just need to add the pitot tube, nose probe, cockpit console, canopy and paint a few details and it is completed. I ended up adding another very thin coat of matt varnish on the wing and fins to get rid of some slight brush marks and that seems to have worked. I decided not to...

    Gary's 1/72 Tamiya F-16 CJ Block 50

Getting there..... although I've managed to misplace one decal that should have been gone on the nose (not visible in this photo) and had to replace with something approximating it taken from the spare box. Hopefully it won't be too obvious on the completed model.

Painting and a gloss now completed, nose cone and exhaust added, and I managed to cut/pry the canopy off without any serious damage - just a bit of touching up was needed around the cockpit edge. It was always the intention to display the model with the canopy open so I left the seat and...

    Gary's 1/72 Fine Molds F14A Tomcat

The number of parts and relative complexity of the kit is a bit daunting at first, but it looks like it will go together ok. As with most kits the first steps are to build the cockpit and nose. The kit allows you to build it with a number of access panels open, but I think I am going to go the...

    Gary's 1/72 Fine Molds F14A Tomcat

My F16 build is currently stalled while awaiting paint to arrive, so I thought I would start my next build, namely the 1/72 scale Fine Molds F14A Tomcat in the colors of VF-111 Sundowners.

    Gary's 1/72 Tamiya F-16 CJ Block 50

There was some leakage under the masking tape around the nose and rear of the wings, plus I managed to somehow get a dark gray thumb print in the light gray underside! Upside of that was it gave me an excuse to run down the annoying seam at the front of the nose wheel bay prior to touching it...

    Gary's 1/72 Tamiya F-16 CJ Block 50

Masking tape is off, but I've been left with a few places which will need cleaning up and retouching unfortunately! I guess that is pretty much to be expected when hand painting.

Final top coat applied, now to let it dry thoroughly before taking the masking tape off.

Wheels ready to roll! Why do things always look worse in the photos than in real life??😉

    Gary's 1/72 Tamiya F-16 CJ Block 50

I finished painting the undersides, so the next step is to mask off these parts and paint the top of the wings and fuz. Not so happy with the joint on the underside forward and aft of the nose wheel bay. Under my desk lamp it was not visible, but on the photos and in daylight it shows up a...

Here are a couple of shots comparing the Eduard exhaust (left) with the rather basic kit original. As can be seen the Eduard one is much better.

Ok as promised, a couple of more photos. Airframe has had two coats of thin prima, plus the underside and fin have had the first thin topcoat.

Just to prove I have not been totally unproductive over the last week or so. And the airframe is getting to a stage where I can soon start thinking about painting it. More photos to follow as and when!

    Gary's 1/72 Tamiya F-16 CJ Block 50

Not a lot of exciting progress over the last couple of days to report. Been working on the intake and exhaust, plus painting the insides of the u/c doors amongst other things. The jet pipe and exhaust nozzle are a bit simple which is a shame on such an otherwise nicely detailed kit. I've...

    Gary's 1/72 Tamiya F-16 CJ Block 50

Top and bottom fuselage halves joined, tail fin put together and a test fitting done of the wings and fin on the body. I must say this is the best fitting kit I've had the pleasure to build since returning to the hobby. Next stage is to finish and fit the air intake/front wheel bay. At the...

    Gary's 1/72 Tamiya F-16 CJ Block 50

Ok, been busy with the main undercarriage in the last couple of building sessions. Normally I would not add the u/c at this stage, but on this kit it is a bit fiddly and so did not fancy tackling it on a fully completed model. Once complete it's quite strong but it will obviously need to be...

    Gary's 1/72 Tamiya F-16 CJ Block 50

Next up was assembling and painting the various u/c parts, prior to fitting them into the lower fuselage. The F16 seems to have an extremely complicated main u/c but it is very nicely replicated in the kit. As these parts are white and I'm hand painting everything I going to give them first a...
