    Making aerials from sprues...

Stan Catchpole books are good for that stuff as well…..used to read the hints as they came out in Milmod back in the day…..

Tamiya Extra Thin, whats the difference?

Must admit I don’t get using TET (even if called cleaner) for cleaning the airbrush. I’m sure it does a great job, but so does lacquer thinner and that’s loads cheaper,.,..at least, it is in the UK.

Don’t know, but holding the sprue above a hot soldering iron does….

Tamiya Extra Thin, whats the difference?

It doesn’t evaporate like TET, it just appears to…..

Tamiya Extra Thin, whats the difference?

Plus one to that Peter, coupled to the fact that TET isn’t the only plastic adhesive I use. It’s not even the only solvent adhesive I use. I have Daywat Poly (very hot), TET (medium hot), and EMA (least hot) in the drawer for various uses, and use Contacta for any job that is likely to require...

    Making aerials from sprues...

Something worth knowing about this technique is that the sprue retains its original shape as it is stretched. I remember finding some hex shaped sprue once and making scale wagon nuts from it. The best for it was original Airfix sprue from the seventies. Stretched very fine indeed. Modern...

Tamiya Extra Thin, whats the difference?

Most of the cost incurred in hobby glues is actually in the packing and transport. Bulk is cheaper, always will be, but buying like you say does bring other issues that you don’t mention. One of them is material quality. Is the chemical you are buying of the appropriate quality and...

    Another polishing question.....

Andy did this for a living, so his advice is gold standard. I would follow that, only adding that allowing the paint to gas off properly and harden right through the layer is also necessary to get the best results. The only time I would polish between layers is if my spraying has been sub par...

    The Smythemeister's Bf109 G-10

I was aware of the IPs, but not the ESCI stuff (which must be getting long in the tooth now). Obviously an idea that never took off then 😁

    The Smythemeister's Bf109 G-10

Neither do I Geoff. I seem to remember both Airfix Lancaster and Flying Fortress original art had engine fires, but don’t recall box art where someone is actually bailing out..

    The Smythemeister's Bf109 G-10

Looking very good there Andy. Excellent work bud. Strikes me that there would be scope for kits that depict just this bit of the aircraft in a larger than usual scale. A bit like the current trend for ship parts………

Great collection. Loving the film as well 👍

    Flying scotsman

The point I’m making, and missed the target badly I know, is that 1/35 is primarily a war equipment scale, not a railway scale. The Scotsman wasn’t really used in a war setting, and being primarily an express passenger engine wasn’t even used to haul freight, so would miss that market. It...

Nice one Mick. As others have said…routine is your friend. Daytime TV and social media (apart from SMod) are not.

Some 1/35 dios that I did whilst away from the site

Excellent work Andy. Figure work in particular is superb…. Nice little vignettes all round I’d say.

    Flying scotsman

The OO stuff is still available as part of the Dapol range…..and a lot of it came from Rosebud Kitmaster in the first place 😁. I would be absolutely amazed if anyone made a 1/35 British engine of any type. 1/35 just isn’t a model railway scale so would have an extremely limited sales market...

Any idea as to when old pics can be full image?

Great story….have you ever read Spike Milligan’s memoirs? There is a great story about when he was stationed on a rail gun in Kent. Basically, at night, when the invasion risk was suspended until the next day, they used to take the rail gun down the line to the pub….

    Hot rod Iwatta airbrush

I back flush the nozzle with a pipette full of thinner….blows any crud right back out…..not that I get much as MLT dissolves Tamiya paint crud quite happily.

    Hot rod Iwatta airbrush

Bit confused by this, but it’s probably me being a bit thick. Paint gets blown through to the nozzle and cap when you use the brush to paint things so how do you avoid it? I use a similar regime for cleaning, but use MLT or lacquer thinner to clean parts after use. I shoot the remaining...
