20mm Vickers mg team. Geoff’s D Day 80th anniversary GB

Finished these guys this morning. Quite fun to do, though a bit fiddly at times. 28mm white metal figures, painted in Vallejo acrylics. Calibration shot in the build blog if you wonder how big they are. Hope they pass muster :thumb2:

    Bird Watching a Relaxing Hobby

Great sight on the back lawn this evening…….watched them for ages. Not the greatest of pictures, but that’s a green woodpecker feeding a juvenile using ants from our lawn.

Tim’s 20mm SHQ miniatures Airborne Vickers mg team

Plodding on with these guys…..just need bases painted, varnish, shiny highlights, and basing now. I’m doing the Vickers next….. ….and here is a very cruel close up… I’m glad the four gallon Tamiya bottles are still available……they would look impossibly small otherwise…..

    Mixing acrylic paints

The short answer is no it isn’t…….paint colours up until computers started to be used in the mid 1980s, were matched by eye so could easily show variation. Add in atmospheric conditions, wear, fading, dust, and the strength and colour of reflected daylight (which differs according to the time...

Tim’s 20mm SHQ miniatures Airborne Vickers mg team

Well, some progress on the little chaps at last….not the best picture, sorry….. Faces, hats, boots, and trousers done now……currently working up the denison smocks. Base layer painted and highlighted (and all the work blown out by the camera….), so brown and green splodges next……I don’t try to...

    Old modelling handbooks/guidebooks/manuals

Here are some from the eighties and nineties that I own……photos taken from the web though….. All are aging a bit now, but all are worth a look. They all date from before the internet as well. The first two are standards in their field and should be well known. The other seven are all...

    This is family

Sorry to post something that is nothing to do with modelling, but this is important to me. This weekend I took my mums ashes home to where she was born. She was scattered on the West Hill at Hastings. I am an only child and, as you can imagine, this was a job I was frankly dreading doing with...

Slightly better definition on the plumage…

    Bird Watching a Relaxing Hobby

Hi all. I’m usually quite good at this stuff, but this one has me stumped……been watching it for about thirty minutes sat on next doors roof. I know what I “think” it is, but am equally sure that the bird I think it is is so rare that it can’t be…l The photos are rubbish, but they were the...

Tim’s IBG 1/72 Inns of Court Daimler Armoured Car. Geoff’s D Day 80th GB.

Well, the tiny little beastie is finished. Waited right to the end before I knocked off an aerial as well…..there is no crew figure. I couldn’t get one to fit so you’ll have to imagine the commander is off answering a call of nature somewhere…… Almost nothing can be seen of the...

    AI generated silliness

Hi all. Just seen these and thought they might give some of you a giggle….all apparently AI generated, after all, no artist is going to claim them….. Whats wrong here? Spot the obvious mistakes? And a hard one….Rambo’s granddad perhaps….Guess what battle this is?

Tim’s 1/72 IBG Inns of Court Daimler armoured car.

Right, last pictures in this thread. Now built, waiting final touches, dusting up, and a base….

Tim’s 1/72 IBG Inns of Court Daimler armoured car.

Well, it’s been decalled and varnished. Just a bit of dust, assembly, and basing to go now…… I’ll be happy to move on from this once it’s done. Seems to be taking an age.

    Reaching the Limit?

Lots out there. These for example….

Now with burnt umber wash/filter and a light drybrush in Vallejo tan earth….the colour looks much better to me, not that I’m that knowledgeable about British AFV colours. Details next, then decals etc….. The detail of the kit has come out really well after this treatment. Must admit it’s...

Tim’s 20mm SHQ miniatures Airborne Vickers mg team

Just for Jim and John…..now primed and given a black pin wash to bring out the details…..

Now with SSC 2…..mixed from Tamiya colours and possibly a bit green. I’m going to use a burnt umber wash on it to give it a little more definition and make it slightly browner. Drybrush will happen after detail painting and decals. It will probably get some selective pin washing as well.

Tim’s 20mm SHQ miniatures Airborne Vickers mg team

Cleaned up, based or mounted, and ready for priming. The two guys on the paint pots will be mounted on the base so don’t need coins. I know the tripod is wrong, by the way, but the figure doesn’t fit behind it otherwise……

Tim’s 20mm SHQ miniatures Airborne Vickers mg team

Hi all. For my second build I will put this team together and paint them up. They are white metal figures from SHQ miniatures. I’ve had these for a few years now, so it’s a good excuse to paint them. I will get them cleaned up and they can be primed with the Daimler in my other build…..

Tim’s 1/72 IBG Inns of Court Daimler armoured car.

Well, assembly is now finished. Aerials added from 0.33 mm hard brass wire. A good 150 parts for a vehicle that is about 5 cm long is ridiculous in my eyes. I only used the dust flaps from the etch fret because most of the others didn’t really add much. They would in 1/35, but in 1/72 they...
