    ICM Spitfire beer delivery

After priming yesterday , I got some colour on . The instrument panel is beautifully tooled but needs careful painting to bring out the best of it . The rest of the cockpit is nicely done, just needing the etched belts which I had in the spares box .These were only plain brass so needed painting.

    Airfix 1/72 Spitfire Vc

The final few bits have been done and its finished . I didnt add an aerial wire as all the photos ive seen of this particular aircraft or related aircraft dont show one . I’m happy with how the bleaching experiment turned out , fading the top colours nicely . I didnt do a panel wash other than...

    Airfix 1/72 Spitfire Vc

Nearly there now . Its had a coat of matt varnish with a couple of drops of off white mixed in , this gave it the dun bleached look I was after . It then had a coat of normal matt varnish. The exhausts have been fitted and the staining added . The canopy has been unmasked and neatened up and the...

    Airfix 1/72 Spitfire Vc

Decals now on . I wondered about the strange location of the V on the serial , sitting much higher up than the DB but looking at photographs of the actual aircraft it shows that Airfix have done their homework and got it right . Next job a matt coat to seal everything in , I’m toying with the...

    Airfix 1/72 Spitfire Vc

After a masking session I got the dark earth on and followed that with a lightened mix over the top surfaces to hopefully try and give the impression of sun bleaching. After overnight curing it was unmasked and its now had a coat of gloss ready for the decals .

    Airfix 1/72 Spitfire Vc

I wanted to try and get a sun bleached look to the upper side paintwork so I added a few drops of white to the mid stone and gave the top of the fuselage , wings and tailplanes a random blotching . Once ive applied the dark earth I’ll do the same to that which will hopefully look like its faded...

    Airfix 1/72 Spitfire Vc

This morning I decided I’d like the cockpit door open , of course I should have done this before gluing the fuselage together !!DOH! But fool that I am I decided to go ahead anyway. The door sides were carefully cut with a combination of razor saw and finishing off with the scalpel and the...

    Airfix 1/72 Spitfire Vc

After cutting and sanding to size a suitable piece of sprue this was glued in and spread the fuselage enough to give a nice tight joint. The underside of the fuselage wing fillet was also ground down slightly to ensure the joint was flush with the wing top. The tropical filter nose section was...

    Airfix 1/72 Spitfire Vc

Next up on the cockpit was to fit the aftermarket etched belts . These were the Eduard pre painted steel . I drilled out the middle of the moulded in slot so i could put the end of the belt in and glued them all on . A tensioning cable was added from fuse wire. Once the belts were done I could...

    Airfix 1/72 Spitfire Vc

The decal instrument panel settled down nicely so it just needed a coat of matt to get rid of the shine . Then I got the dotting pens out and gave each instrument a dot of gloss . The rest of the cockpit has had a dark wash to highlight any detail and the seat has been stuck to the armour plate...

    Airfix 1/72 Spitfire Vc

Started on the cockpit today . After a prime with black the various bits were sprayed interior grey green . The seat was painted red brown to represent the plastic these were made from and a few bits and bobs were picked out in black . The instrument panel is nicely moulded but I took the easy...
