    Airfix 1/72 Hurricane IIC G-AMAU

Wings sanded and stuck together. Fuselage likewise. And I managed to cut off the port side part of the tail light, so that needed replacing...

    Airfix 1/72 Hurricane IIC G-AMAU

So, de-riveting and a few choice panel lines re-scribed. There are none on the wings, and only a couple on the fuselage. So, taking photos as a guide will put a few back Some bubbling on the mould to show it's age. That's easily rectified, and not TOO much flash either

    Airfix 1/72 Hurricane IIC G-AMAU

Right, so I had this lying around. It was a freebie I got from work a while back, one of the 'newer' dogfight doubles starter sets, with a Ju.88. The latter I always intend to do a Regia Aeronautica version, but I may just get one of the newer, better kits like the Revell job, and save myself...

    Latest Acquisitions (2024)

Picked up at Salute last weekend. I was hoping this had been released in time but only one stand had it Although I've already got all the BEF infantry I need, I was hoping to use this lot for extras to gun crews and such, but the poses and layout don't lend them as easily to that as the...

    Thoughts on 1/144 scale.

I've just realised, the biggest kit I've got, is 1/144 Just as a comparison, the Su-27 top half in the corner is 1/48 She may be gone, but she may return

    paint conversion helpers...

Not sure if this should go in the Conversion thread, but there are queries about Mr Color stuff separate here. So, I just picked this up from the guys at Albion Alloys today. They're now the distributors for all the Mr Hobby stuff in the UK, so they've compiled a handy compare / conversion...

    Latest Acquisitions (2024)

Just got my figures through from 3djson on eBay, after Tony (Yak face) recommended the printer. All 28 mm / 1/56thn (take your pick) Polish drivers in caps French tankies at briefing British tankies in berets (which won't take too much to make them early war or Western Desert) Sweet

Chris' 1/72 Planet Models Breda Ba.44 (Papa69 Biplane build)

Well, after a bit of a struggle, and the odd mis-step, here we are This was actually my first choice for the GB but I got sidetracked by the Hawker Hector (now I can finish that!), the SE5A and biplane #4 (soon to appear) As a comparison, here's my 'Expedition' DH89 Dragon Rapide, with whom...

Trying to have 1/72 fun with the 1940 McClellan- Barclay wacky camouflage schemes.

There is no reason to suppose that the US Army wouldn't have tried some experimental camo schemes, in the same way the McClellan-Barclay STRANGENESS was tried by the USN And for those of you that weren't following the camo thread... The brown Brewster above is probably equally likely than the...

    Chris's 1/72 Planet Models Breda Ba.44

So, all there is to do now is touch-up paintwork and some weathering around the wheels and underside Next time showing will be a 'Completed' thread... None of the challenges on this build have been insurmountable, and I went into it eyes open. The major problems were the thickness of the...

    Chris's 1/72 Planet Models Breda Ba.44

Well, the BUILD is done. Still much work to do That's all the rigging in place Tail wheel, exhaust pipes and nose pitot added. There are no photos that show exactly what the probe looked like, and there's nothing in the kit, so just a few bits together (including the alternate joystick for...

    Chris's 1/72 Planet Models Breda Ba.44

Aaand..! All the outer wing rigging is double strand. I was going to use they 0.1 wire I usually keep for aerial cables, but i=that's very difficult to handle and keep straight. So, just doubled up the 0.2. The back is done now too, so only the outer styruts and the starboard wing to do...

    Chris's 1/72 Planet Models Breda Ba.44

I'm holding it down and making it submit truth be told, there's more work than I thought but it's not THAT much of a struggle Maybe it is. A little So, rather than trying to fit shims, I just took out the struts and added new ones entirely, from Aeroclub strut material. Must get some more of...

    Chris's 1/72 Planet Models Breda Ba.44

Right, q'pla! All it took was pushing the blade up under the frame and winkling a bit, and it's done. It WAS definitely stuck at both ends though Weird So, the close-in rigging is in and done and didn't take two hours for the first part wire and an hour for the next three, just the length...

As Jayne Cobb would say 'Gorramit!' But first Added the spinners. They still need some clean-up and touch up, but they're small enough to need fixing in place to aid that. And here's another quibble. The props are just two blades stuck together, with no boss or flat piece in the center...

    Chris's 1/72 Planet Models Breda Ba.44

On with the codes. I've used modified Modeldecal RAF pre-war letters. No 'R's and not enough 'O's (cue 'Four Candles' joke...), so 'B' and 'D' sufficed By the photo reference, the fuselage band is too wide. Only the O and R should be on it, buuut, it does actually 'balance' on both sides...

    Chris's 1/72 Planet Models Breda Ba.44

'The bandages came off just this afternoon!' Well, it was yesterday actually, but I couldn't resist the quote So then. Like a certain JMW Turner, I have a tendency to do more after I've supposedly finished, just for my own satisfaction. But NOW I'm happy So far All masking off, wheels and...

    Camouflage painting

Here's a scan of the conjectural colour for one of the McClellan-Barclay schemes, out of Wings of the Fleet Profiles book from Aviation Workshop I look at the complexity of the thing and go, 'what were they thinking'? Sure, it's experimental and all, but it's just so complicated. And what was...

    Chris's 1/72 Planet Models Breda Ba.44

Before putting gloss on the wings underside and tail for the roundels and markings, off came SOME of the masking Just needs a little touch up on the fuselage band But for some reason, the tape and blu-tack took off a spot on the starboard wing. But, seeing as I have to paint all the struts...

And so we enter the home stretch More-or-less My current airbrush is the Aztek with the multiple different nozzles for different paint flow / spread. I usually use medium flow, but really ought to use the high flow more for large areas. I thought using the template cut-out method recently on...
