    Andy's Hobby 2000 1/48 Hurricane Mk 1

Latest update: dark earth is on. The masking for the dark green has begun but not complete. Probably next time I'll buy an aftermarket set of masks as the blue tack + masking tape system is really time consuming with models over 1/72. Wondering about painting the upper wings roundels instead of...

    Andy's Hobby 2000 1/48 Hurricane Mk 1

Some more paint job done. Paint in use are from the AK Real set for early RAF in Europe plus NATO Black, always from AK Real for the black lower wing. Tried some pre shading but I have to improve my skills (less lines, more blotches). The final result on the lower wings is not bad, just some...

    Andy's Hobby 2000 1/48 Hurricane Mk 1

Back to the bench. Primed! The little scratches on the fuselage and wings are rescribed details as I had to sand some little defects the primer brought into evidence. While it fully cures I have to decide how to proceed with the camo painting: masking... free hand...:cold-sweat: ...

    Latest Acquisitions (2024)

I needed a pot of paint for my Abrams and some transparency glue so, while in Turin, I paid a visit to my old LHS. Don't know why that Stug fell into my bag... ;)

    Andy's Hobby 2000 1/48 Hurricane Mk 1

Small progresses today: landing gear components built and painted, radiator and gunports added, canopy external frame painted in cockpit green (the internal part is smooth so painting the inner frame with just the outer one as a reference was out of question) and then glued in place, navigation...

    Thoughts on 1/144 scale.

I have only 3 1/144 kit under my belt, an old kit of a Grumman A6 Intruder and two Tiger I built when I returned to the hobby and it was fun. (panzer pic here below to show the detail level you can find in those kits - they had even photo etched engine grilles!)

    Andy's Hobby 2000 1/48 Hurricane Mk 1

A bit more done: now it looks like a Hurricane, but I managed to create a non existent Mk. In fact, I didn't remember that the kit provides two noses, one for the homeland Mk1 and one for the "trop" version so I managed to glue the "trop"nose on the fuselage and discovered it when, gluing the...

    Andy's Hobby 2000 1/48 Hurricane Mk 1

Yesterday some more progress. Finished the "office" and closed the fuselage. There are no pics of the office cage because of a lucky strike (no tobacco involved ;)): while I was dry fitting the office, not fully cured yet, into the fuselage it happened that everything clicked into its proper...

    Spots on the Internet (2024)

I knew I had a tin of that tartan paint somewhere ;) but for brush only, adding thinner spoils the effect :tongue-out3:

    What has Disappeared?

That's my tentative translation of the italian "castagnaccio", a soft pie made with chestnut flour, raisin, pine nuts and olive oil. Here's a pic, low quality but very similar to the one I used to eat at school (the pie, not the pic :rolling:) .

    Andy's Hobby 2000 1/48 Hurricane Mk 1

Today some dry fitting tests. Not bad along the centreline; the joint between wings and fuselage will need some attention, probably just some sanding before glueing. Main step of the day: canopy masking and, by the way, the idea of cutting the canopy to display it in the open position was...

    Andy's Hobby 2000 1/48 Hurricane Mk 1

First small steps and first blunder (Steve T, you're not alone ;)) Removing the rudder pedals from the sprue the piece broke in 3 (!!!) parts. Managed to glue them in place, the pedals look a little wonky... but nobody will see them once the fuselage is closed :rolling:. The seat is dry fitted...

    Andy's Hobby 2000 1/48 Hurricane Mk 1

Sprue shots and destructions. Some parts belong to the Mk2. I think I'll go for the 302 Sqn version.

    Latest Acquisitions (2024)

While buying some wood paint for SWMBO's spring chore list, I filled up my IPA reserve (probably for life...:nerd:) with 2x 1 litre tins. Coming soon: my Hurricane GB build (believe me! :rolling:;))

What car do you first remember your father owning?

The first car I remember was a black Lancia Appia 2^ serie like this one I still remember he used to take me for a short tour sitting on his knees (today he would be heavily fined and probably lose half of the points on his driving licence) letting me to shift gears (the gear shift was at the...

    Airbrush advice

Ditto, and yes you'll need a compressor. You'll find plenty of advice here as airbrushes and compressors are one of the most discussed topic here as in the whole modeller's world. I have an Iwata compressor and 2 Badger airbrushes, one bottom fed and one side fed, but I'm not yet into small...

SLA /MSLA 3D printing with an Elegoo Mars Ultra - with a model making inclination

I just tried my own (lazy) way to 3D printing: outsourcing. :smiling4: There's a jeweler in a nearby village who's decided to update his production process by introducing 3D printing. This allows him to prepare a detailed CAD model, get the approval from the customer, print it in 1:1, get again...
