    Latest Acquisitions (2020)

Decided I was feeling left out and with the current situation meaning I am building faster. Therefore I have started my stash.

    ICM 1/48 Bf109 F4

A bit more progress, propeller and spinner fitted but the spinner need a slight touch up. Undercarriage is also on, quite surprisingly, this is a good solid connection giving the right splay. Once I have done a little touch up and a bit of “rust” to the exhausts. It will be time for a coat of...

    ICM 1/48 Bf109 F4

Ok we are now into the paint shop, primed, then some dark grey blotches, now the first coat of white. I will do a couple of patches in places with Insignia White as well for a bit of variation.

    ICM 1/48 Bf109 F4

Been nearly a week since I posted last and for me this build is going like lightning. Just about ready for the primer. Took a little time scratchbuilding seatbelts, the lap belts are in, but I am waiting to add the shoulder belts. Some careful fettling needed to get the pieces all reasonably...

    Show us yours...again

My area is pretty tidy at the moment, having just had a major clean and tidy before starting the next kit. Spray booth is on the other side of the room so the hose can be put out of the window when in use. È

    ICM 1/48 Bf109 F4

Thinking about it and looking at his builds I am going to leave the engine out. Made some progress on the cockpit, as there is no decal for the instrument panel I have daubed some paint on to give the impression of instruments if you don’t look closely. The sidewalls were a bit bare so I...

    ICM 1/48 Bf109 F4

Made a start and already encountering issues, the piece on the end of the cockpit floor needed thinning down to fit into the receiving slot. Couple of locating pins on two parts of the engine also needed removing as no corresponding holes to receive them.

    ICM 1/48 Bf109 F4

Ok, so this will be my next victim, I am just doing the aircraft for now, I will save the figures for a diorama another day. This will be my first ICM kit, fairly basic, but quite a detailed engine but I will build closed up. There are no part numbers on the sprues, you need to refer to a...

Airfix Bristol Blenheim Mk IV 1/72nd

Ok folks I have finally finished, not happy with the canopy got some marks and minor fogging, despite dry fitting I had to redo it when I matched the front section of the aircraft to the rest. Aside from that it is a fairly pleasant kit OOB, although I did use the Eduard photo-etch for the...

Airfix 1/72nd Bristol Blenheim Mk IV

Getting there now, masking scraped off the glazing, few blemishes to tidy up.

Airfix 1/72nd Bristol Blenheim Mk IV

Ok some more work done, clear coat and the decals added. Very few decals to add on this bird. Last few delicate bits added and the yellow tips added to the propellers. Done a little bit of weathering but not much, scanning through WWII era photographs in my references and online they generally...

Airfix 1/72nd Bristol Blenheim Mk IV

A little more progress, the dark green on top and the Night underside done. Got to redo some work on the propellers, forgot about the yellow tips, so will mask off and lightly sand the tips to remove the black before spraying the yellow.

Airfix 1/72nd Bristol Blenheim Mk IV

Airfix 1/72nd Bristol Blenheim Mk IV

Ok, after a long haitus work is back underway, working from home so hoped I would be able to pop to the bench for 5 minutes here and there. Reality is a lot of teleconferences as we try to keep things moving. But got some more assembly done and started painting engine and undercarriage parts.

Airfix 1/72nd Bristol Blenheim Mk IV

I have to say personally I have no trouble with the Bare Metal Foil it comes off with a cocktail stick and no glue left, that may be because I use Humbrol Clear Varnish on the canopy before masking, or I have a duff sheet of foil. Back on the real modeling after Notrs Dame, cockpit now being...

    Family Christmas Notre Dame build

Thanks to all who have followed this build, it has provided a fun activity for us all to get involved in over Christmas. As they do some more we may make this a traditional part of our family Christmas. It was quite involved in places and it was great to see the architecture emerging. Now we...

    Family Christmas Notre Dame Build

A little family fun over Christmas, whilst hunting in a local model shop found a Revell Foamboard Notre Dame model and couldn’t resist. Couple of hours with the three of us has seen the front built.

Airfix 1/72nd Bristol Blenheim Mk IV

Started work on masking the canopy, I use bare metal foil over the part, then buff into all the edges with a blunt cocktail stick. Finally cut along the edges with a fine scalpel blade and peel off the frame.
