Eehaw!!, a Donkey, a Bedouin and a Snake vignette

Hi All, Just smoothened the surface and got rid of any bumps and sinks. Also did the kicked up sand with cotton...very delicate process by adding tony bits at a time. Hope it's convincing at this angle... The little hole and pencil marks in the foreground is where the snake will be buried...

    Rehashing Hurtgen forest diorama

Today I did a first pass of paint with modulation for Shadows and highlights... The dark tones were olive drab mixed with black and the highlights olive drab with yellow and dark yellow. All Tamiya acrylics diluted heavily with Mr Levelling thinner. Then filtered with pure thinned olive drab...

    Rehashing Hurtgen forest diorama

Hi Guys, Figures mounted ready for painting after zinethalling. So while I prepare my wet pallette, I worked on bringing the tank destroyers up to date... The Academy kits I used for the Tank Destroyers was basic and my building wasn't up to today's standards but I'll just keep it simple with...

    Rehashing Hurtgen forest diorama

Thanks Scottie, it goes with years of mucking around with putty and decapitations. I worked on the radio guy and scratched his radio pack. He'll be holding his carbine in his left hand. He's also carrying extra ammo bandolias for his mates. Bandolias added to this vino drinking guy... The...

    Rehashing Hurtgen forest diorama

Spent some time detailing the front helmet straps to 15 figures although Tamiya gives very well shaped M1 helmets, they are missing straps. Only the newer kits provide these. Then I added another two figures to the Dio. Comparison between Dragon and Tamiya, the latter wins hands down. Haven't...

    Rehashing Hurtgen forest diorama

I finally got the arms and the pulling of the tunic for these two figures done... what do you think. And also the rest of the nine figures have their gear on except the radioman still needs a radio and phone receiver... Cheers, Wabble

    Rehashing Hurtgen forest diorama

Thanks Scottie. Here's the bunch of primed and zinethalled ex Tamiya restored figures. They look much more convincing than when they were in a mish mash of the old paint work, putty and different plastic arms, head and legs... I will be painting them using Calvin Tans method of light passes...

    Rehashing Hurtgen forest diorama

Hi, I am reposting this as there was no image on my laptop. Hi, I'm adding this group of four and have just modified the arm and hand position of the searching GI from Tamiya. Cranes his head looking low, switched his right arm with a spare from the stash, moved his left arm up and carved...

    Rehashing Hurtgen forest diorama

Hi, I've got figures coming out of my ears so I'm laying them aside and taking a look at the tanks. I took them apart and totally forgot they were early Academy kits so the details were a bit soft on the bolt heads on the side sponsors. I replaced them with sliced tubing that was glued over...

Thanks Jim and Scottie for the concerned replies. I hope what I show helps others to try modifying their figures to suite specific postures they have in mind for their dios instead of giving up the idea because they can't find the right figures. Here is the smiley guy again... He'll get his...

    Rehashing Hurtgen forest diorama

In that mix you see the near finished MP that I have added to the Dio. I found him in the stash... Then I worked on adding his heavy coat...and shifted his arms a bit. Most of his top and sleeves will be covered with putty to beef up the thick coat. I wondered if the MPs drove thier bikes in...

    Rehashing Hurtgen forest diorama

Some progress with the smiling guy but first just to show how messy it is at the start of putty laying is... But when the putty starts to harden a little then it's easier to sculpt... I have here the rest of the mob including the smiling guy with his scarf blowing in the wind... Cheers, Wabble

    Rehashing Hurtgen forest diorama

Thanks Scottie, if you do I'm sure you'll do a great job of it. Before I go on the next set of tools, I just added another figure with a replacement head from one of the surrendering German soldiers. A good head gives good results and expressions. The left arm is also a replacement. Will be...

    Rehashing Hurtgen forest diorama

Hi Guys, before I go any further, just to let you know I'm a regular guy who models for fun just like every member in this great forum. When I share my builds it includes the Oh Dear it's gone wrong bits too. So far it's been figure heavy for a Dio section but big dios equate to large...
