FV217 Badger Tank Destroyer - Amusing Hobby 1:35

The FV217 Badger was a proposed tank destroyer based on the FV214 Conqueror Heavy tank - mounting an enormous 123mm gun on a fixed casemate similar to the Tortoise. The Amusing Hobby kit is based on their Conqueror lower hull and running gear with a new superstructure - the entire turret sprue...

Vintage Airfix HO/OO AEC Matador & 5.5" Gun

This kit was in a "build or bin" batch at a club meet - reminded me of one I built back in the mid 1970's for wargaming - this one was a 1989 issue. When I started it I realised that there was a lot of flash to deal with and the tilt was warped, but the biggest issue was that the left hand cab...

Trumpeter Challenger 2 in Barracuda Camo - or "How to make a sow's ear from a sow's ear!"

Trumpeter Challenger 2 in Barracuda Camo - or "How to make a sow's ear from a sow's ear!" This was a cheap kit picked up from an under-the-table sale at a show and when I opened the box it was obvious why the previous owner didn't want it! Actually it was clearly labelled as "incomplete" as a...

“British Fighting Vehicles - Why You Should Avoid Them”

The point that she fails to make is that she is talking about vehicles that have been sold off to private buyers after many years of service. There's no telling how long they were unmaintained. Yes there were some design flaws but all of these vehicles had extended service lives. And didn't...

Tamiya Matilda 2 Mk III - Malta 1942

Built OOB - A nice kit with reasonable figures and probably the best link and length tracks I've used recently. Waiting for suitable markings. Colours are open to debate - there are no contemporary colour images that I can find and some references state "Portland Stone" and others "Middle...

    Aifix Ferret Mk 2 - BATUS 1980

Built pretty much out of the box apart from correcting the engine louvres at the rear (5 thou plastic card) - figure is a random resin one from the stash.

    Vespid 1/72 Scale Leopard 2 A7V

Built completely OOB - a lovely kit, very detailed for its small size. Painted in Tamiya and Mr Color lacquers.

1/35 scale Hobby Boss Land Rover WMIK with MILAN ATGM

Built pretty much out of the box - was originally going to do the Gulf version by over-spraying the NATO green base but decided I quite liked the "greenie". Probably not as accurate as some Landie kits but at least it looks the part. Not sure how the MILAN mount would work in practice as I've...

    WWII German winter uniform

Hi - the following picture are from Brian L Davis "German Army Uniforms and Insignia 1939-1945" and show the "Snow Shirt" and "Snow Coverall" - both are lightweight garments worn over existing greatcoats etc

Hobby Boss 1/35 Romanian TACAM T-60

Built as part of a "60" themed thread - the TACAM T-60 was a modified Russian T-60 mounting a captured F22 76.2 mm ant-tank gun - same idea as the German Marder series. The kit was a nice straightforward build but the individual link tracks would have been better as link & length as they are...

    Shilka SPAAG - Meng 1:35

This has been sitting part completed since 2019 - I finally got round to finishing it recently. Built largely OOB apart from replacement aluminium barrels. Not a very satisfying build as it had a lot of fiddly parts - especially around the gun pod.

Saladin Mk 2 Armoured Car in UN Livery - Dragon 1:35

Built OOB - I decided to go for the UN scheme for something different. There is evidence that this particular vehicle was painted in UN White in Cyprus 1975. I think the figures are from Valkyrie - but I cant be sure as I picked them up ages ago from an under table sale at a show and they were...

Sturmmorser Tiger (aka sturmtiger) - AFV Club 1:35

I tried it on a STUG a while back and it worked well - it can also be used to simulate anti-slip by embossing on sandpaper or straps etc - it has the added advantage over paste based zimmerit that it can be scraped off if you're unhappy.

Sturmmorser Tiger (aka sturmtiger) - AFV Club 1:35

Built straight from the box apart from the hull zimmerit which was done using self-adhesive aluminium plumbing tape. A reasonably straightforward build but care is needed fitting the casemate to the hull - some trimming required to get a good join. The tracks are classic soft rubber AFV Club...

    Takom 1:35 FV432 Mk2/1

Takom FV432 Mk2/1 built OOB - a nice kit but some fit issues with the interior - I don't think the partitions lined up properly and it was too late when I came to fit the roof so I had to do some judicious trimming. I would definitely build another but might not be too bothered about the interior.

    A pair of British Soldiers - Gulf War 1 & 2

A pair of resin figures approximately 90mm picked up from a particular Chinese market place. I realise that these are probably recasts and I would have preferred to buy from the original source but I've not been able to identify the original producer online. The first I have finished in 1990's...

AFV Club - Churchill Mk III - "Kingforce"

Built OOB apart from Fruil Tracks - not entirely happy with the finish but it had been sitting part done for about 2 years so I rushed it a bit.

    Tamiya - Challenger 1 Mk3

Built OOB apart from 3D printed crew figures and some stowage
