    Doug's 1/48 - KA27 Helix by Hobby Boss

Posting while I have the chance, I spotted SWMBO making a start on a new list this morning!!!! I managed to complete the lower rotor head, AND, without loosing a single piece. Only one ping out of the tweezers and that was recovered in seconds. (a tiny control arm). The finished article, both...

    Doug's 1/48 - KA27 Helix by Hobby Boss

Mmm, most of the sprue frames I have are 2mm, and yes, luckily!! The frame around a couple of sprues from the Airfix S/K are 3mm!! Phew. Did some precise measuring today after another extensive search of the work space - nada!! After taping the push rods in place and pressure fitting the...

    Doug's 1/48 - KA27 Helix by Hobby Boss

Thank you Jakko and Chris for you input. Jakko, well spotted. I never noticed the mirror effect!! Chris, thanks for the suggestion. I did try it out but the locating tab on the bottom of the IP isn't central. As the right side clashes with the right hand seat pilots console. That would have...

    Doug's 1/48 - KA27 Helix by Hobby Boss

Hi all, spent a lot of the day sorting out a paint plan as I got carried away this morning assembling the cockpit area. Had to stop before I went too far and would make it difficult to add paint!! Pic 1 The frames and racks behind the cockpit are all still dry fitted. Really pleased with the...

    Doug's 1/48 - KA27 Helix by Hobby Boss

Yes before anyone says anything - another helicopter!! Undecided as to whether to blog this one or not but in the end - here it is. There is definitely going to be some artistic license with the internal paint colours as the instructions are very vague as is any info from the net so excuse the...

    What's on the Bench 2024

Well, I'm off the blocks with the Hobby Boss Helix. (1/48). In two minds to do a blog or not. May just post the odd pic. I have to say though - what a difference to the LF Wasp. Nice alignment marks. Some good detail. (They have even supplied electronics boxes for the racking - unlike Mr Airfix...

    Female modellers?

Doug's Westland Wasp by LF, the build!

I have spent the weekend and a portion of today attempting to assemble the flotation gear!! Every combination of fitting has been tried and still the flotation cans don't sit right - I surrender!!! The white flag is now flying over the bench! I give up!! Wasn't going to let a piece of plastic...

Doug's Westland Wasp by LF, the build!

Oh, I am still tinkering with the kit by the way. Just - not quickly. Primed a load of tiny parts yesterday and top coated today. The flotation struts, weapon booms and the new missiles as well as some ancillary pieces, aerials, tail rotor rear stabiliser etc. Test fitted some of the flotation...

    One Egg Beater

Nice build, bit of a rotary fan myself. My first front line squadron was A 'commando' squadron. (UK built Wessex Mk5). Solid aircraft, could take a fair bit of abuse!! Eagle base, Malaya - 1971 Attached to the sqdn was a USMC pilot who had completed a couple of tours in Viet Nam. He was mega...

Doug's Westland Wasp by LF, the build!

It's the right colour for a later Wasp, (Post 1982), when the colour scheme was more a tactical dark grey blue with black numbers and lettering. Prior to 1982 Wasps, in fact most naval helicopters were more a blue grey rather than grey blue, (if that makes sense). Pics below. Pre 82 More blue...

Doug's Westland Wasp by LF, the build!

Hello again. Back to it today. As you may have guessed I wasn't happy about the rear U/C geometry so today I took it apart. In the process - stabbed myself with a No. 15 scalpel blade, nothing major, just a little nick. Pic 1. port side rear removed. Pic 2. Undercarriage, port and starboard...

Back in the land of the insane again.

Pardon my absence folks. I took a break from the Wasp and then for some odd unexplained reason my ptsd kicked in. So rather than pee people off on here I kept a listening watch and all your progress but didn't comment on anything less I do/say someone I didn't actually mean. Anyway, all is good...

    Aircraft recognition?

Any spotters have any ideas what I saw today. No pics sorry. It was during the morning walk. Ok. About the size of a small single engined Cesna. Rear wing was swept back. Narrow dart looking fuselage. Forward of the rear wings were what looked like small canards. At a guess I would say piston...
