Doug's Westland Wasp by LF, the build!

Hi Arnie, yeah, as you may have guessed I like the Wasp/Scout set up. Like having your own taxi!!!! The pic inside the cockpit wasn't me snapping!! It was one of the lads on the ship we took up for a 'jolly'. We'd take anyone up if they had put their names in a flight book on the bridge. Most...

Doug's Westland Wasp by LF, the build!

Todays progress. Spent what seemed ages getting very little, (no pun intended), done. Progress in pictures!! Pic 1 Drilled out the exhaust of the oil cooler. Started small and build up drill sizes until I dare drill no more as the exhaust tapers in! Pic 2 Next, I scratch built a new missile...

Doug's Westland Wasp by LF, the build!

I think my expectations of what I wanted it to be haven't materialised Tony! I have very good memories of this little helicopter that I really wanted it to be perfect. However, all I can do is give it my best shot and hope the few editions I make will somehow be enough to do it justice. The Wasp...

Doug's Westland Wasp by LF, the build!

Thinking of pre booking a bed at the funny farm. Another day and lost some of the enthusiasm I gained yesterday. Filling in, filing and swearing today. Methinks this Wasp is on par with your big cat Chris!! And I'm not messing about with light and moveable hinges and the like. Well today I...

Doug's Westland Wasp by LF, the build!

Little progress made today as I have decided to slow down due to its size. The tail cone and fuselage were attached and glued into place as was the engine deck. All the tapes removed. I did a lot of measuring and looking for suitable material for a brain phart I had. We rarely flew with front...

Doug's Westland Wasp by LF, the build!

Made a start today and I have to say - it's awful!! My hands are going to be full with this one! Flash, missing spigots or detents to locate parts in the correct place!! Three arms and I still struggled. A day filing, cutting and swearing!! However - 'We're Off'. Started with the obligatory...

Doug's 1/72 LF Wasp - Under Starters Orders!

Hi folks. Good news, for me anyway! Bulk of the chores are finished and today I managed to have a serious look at the Westland Wasp Mk1 (And only 1), Oh isn't it small!!! The sprues have no lettering or numbers on them, not that it's a problem as I'm more than familiar with the cab. Loads of...

    CA Glue

Any recommendations for a specific brand of CA? The current one I'm using is the Loctite brand. Is there another brand that is better or more applicable to me a better applicator method. I find the tube blocks easily and the CA difficult to actually come out. Thanks in advance. Doug

    Glad I'm patient!

Ordered some AM parts a few weeks ago for up and coming Wasp build. (AS12 missiles). Just found out they'll be ready late July!! It's just as well I'm not a quick builder or I'd be pacing up and down waiting to finish!! I'm wondering if the wings are offset? If not I may be doing some...

    Found it!!

A few weeks ago I decided to move my completed kits to somewhere safe in preparation for the up coming garage make over! (this week). During the move one of the wing mirrors off the VW Beetle fell onto the garage floor!!! Couldn't find it for the life of me. Then yesterday, Mem Sahib and I...

    Off the air.

Been off the air since finishing the Sea King. A few events all collided and I decided to just look in every now and then. I initially intended to have a few days before looking at the Wasp, but first painting the garage which is where I work on my kits. Then! Son trotted off across the pond...

I wasn't going to post this on here, but as it was posted on Facebooks Airfix site!! RIP Commander 'Sharkey' Ward RN It's a link to a Facebook page so apologies if you cannot access the link. Boatmans Super Tomcat F14D Build

Hi Chris, shouldn't you be wearing boxing gloves with this one!! It's putting up quite a fight!! That sticky out panel. Could you not shave off a little of the top to pull the section sticking out back into line. Or would that knock out the overall geometry of the engine panel?? I've arrowed...

    Doug's Mk5 ASW Sea King

Evening folks. Well it was 5 months in the making. (Quick aint I???) :smiling3: It's finished at last. Enjoyed the whole thing. As usual, tried something new. Made mistakes, some easily corrected some just left. What I need to work on is decal application, not my strong suit. Lost a couple on...

    Doug's 1/48 Airfix Sea King

Well, SWMBO came good. I had a few things to do but nothing she instigated. I did get to work on the King! Ice Accretion probe was remade and fitted. The port side split door stays were re-made. I changed from wire to thread as the wire was causing more problems than sorting, so they went...

    Doug's 1/48 Airfix Sea King

I was going to fly for Westlands but that fell through, then Bond offered me a position in operations when I left the RN but the wages were rubbish as was the contract. I look back and I still think I made the right decision, which is strange for me!!!! Anyway - today!!! HA! Today I have been...

    Doug's 1/48 Airfix Sea King

Not much done in actual moving forward but I had to spend a fair bit of time fiddling!! First, I made a tiny little probe to be a OAT Probe. (Outside Air Temperature probe!!) Then the usual - Twang = off it went into the ether, never to be seen again. As did number two!! Number three was go. In...

    Doug's 1/48 Airfix Sea King
