I was unable to match up the canopy prop with the canopy, whatever i tried. I did manage to remove it and spent ages trying too 'work it'. So I thought I would glue the canopy into place but... its a poor fit and at this stage in a build you cannot take the necessary remedial action as it...

On the final stages. and a problem. The canopy does not come close to matching the canopy prop. Below the prop matches, as far as I can determine, the instructions as does the part in the canopy that is meant to match it. As you can see it misses by a large margin. All the rest of the final...

Masking is off and decals done. The decals are Cartograph so as you would expect they are well printed and lay down well. There are however a lot of them and they are closely printed on two sheets, some almost touch each other and this provides a few issues. When I say lot, I do mean a lot...

I have been doing touch ups to the paintwork. For this I am using Panzer Putty. It is perfect for this local masking (as well as free flowing two tone camo such as RAF schemes).

I have airbrushed the underside. I will spray a little detail on the underside before masking up to do the topside. MRP038 was used, Light Ghost Grey. Incidentally, before this I sprayed the nose cone Dark Ghost Grey before masking it up.

Below the stores and a few other bits with the paints I sprayed them with. Here is the airframe now with the tail-pipe painted and masked I will also paint the nose cone next, before the main camo scheme starting with the underside. That's when I will attach those pesky small vulnerable...

Well I have got this little lady into her sexy black undies. Tomorrow I will check the seams and sort them. Also I have finished the priming stage for the stores and other parts.

The Port stab broke off. The solution was to drill a hole to use a metal pin. Easy enough solution Above, the pin inserted and glued in with c.a. and below, the stab fitted back and its stronger than before. . More lumps and bumps fitted. I also decided to fit the nose cone at this stage...

I am getting close to the painting stage. The canopy has come up well all parts are now off the sprues, those being used anyway. Below are the undercarriage parts all painted and wash applied along with a few other painted parts awaiting attachment. These are ready for priming These...

A couple of pics. The wings, fin and tail are on... All the additions certainly change the appearance of the F16. No issues, coming along nicely. Now, what stores shall I load her with? mmmmm

A couple of pictures of the cockpit with the instrument panels dry fitted Regardless of the instructions i am thinking that I might hand paint the cockpit surround black as it seems more appropriate. I then went on to attach a lot of lumps and bumps and there are a lot of them.

After gluing into place the rim of the canopy I decided to sand off a mould line. First some sanding with a fine 1000 grade sanding sponge to remove the line. After that I used 2500 grit sander then a 4000 grit polisher. Below is how it looks now As you can see its far from perfect so I...

I have been getting on with the cockpit. The instrument panels The ejection seats There was a minor fit issue between the fuselage halves. I tried dry fitting time and time again, from different angles but always there was an issue in the same place. incidentally nothing inside was...

I have been working on a few subassemblies including the 'spine' as you can see below it is in two pieces with a join that is hard to sand without destroying some detail. It does fit perfectly into place though. The wheel wells have a lot of parts but build up beautifully

I did something unusual for me. Before starting I washed all the sprues in lukewarm soapy water. It looked as if the might be some grease on some of them. That said the plastic is very nice, crisply moulded, soft but not too soft, and as I found nice to work with. No flash, no burring and...

My next build is a colourful one, the box I have heard a lot of good things about this kit and on opening I get a real quality feel just from how it packed. Now for some of the contents a small etch frame with a few brass pieces including the nose probe. The decals look to be very nice...

    Completed Italari 1/32 Tornado GR4

This is a very enjoyable kit to build, not for beginners though. A much better kit than the old Revel 1/32 Tonka, highly recommended.

    Italari 1/32 Panavia Tornado GR1

More final fittings done and masking removed. Below, you can see how under the mask the front canopy somehow got cracked. There is nothing I can do with it so I just have to live with it. A couple of cockpit shots. The underside with all stores attached. The wings still swing keeping the...

Too late for that Steve. Removal of the decals destroyed them. If i knew they would not fit in the first place I might have done that. On to the final fittings after a semi-matt coat and spraying the fin smoke stains. The u/c fitted really well as did the bombs. The rest of the stores for...

    Italari 1/32 Panavia Tornado GR1

Decals are on. I decided not to apply a panel line wash as the black basing, combined with the over sized panel lines have done the job. I also want this to be fairly lightly weathered as this was a celebratory scheme. I will spray the very distinctive exhaust stains on the fin though. I...
