    Greetings from the South Atlantic!

My younger son who is in charge of photography. Not what you usually get on a normal cruise, not ripping you off taking photos of you to sell you, no. His job is to help passengers with their own photography, he was briefing people yesterday on how to get better landscapes and wildlife photos...

    Greetings from the South Atlantic!

On the way to South Georgia on the expedition ship Silversea Wind. Met up with my son, who is the ships expedition photographer and the sea is rather choppy! Not much to see at the moment but sea. I have, however, met an ex-USN aviator, flew F4’s and several other interesting people. Less...

The Border Models 1/32 Lancaster BI/III

I have brought the cockpit and bomb aimers assemblies together. All fitted well but needed some tlc to get them together. I have also worked on the outer clamshells, a bit of painting, windows and other ‘bits’ fitted. Hole drilled for antenna. Here is a dry fit. Ignore the gaps, these...

The Border Models 1/32 Lancaster BI/III

I have had a bit of a slow period, three or four days when my back was too bad for the bench and a few days more when I could only do up to half an hour a day. It has also been slow going detail painting the cockpit and weathering. . . The decals continue to be utterly useless. I only...

The Border Models 1/32 Lancaster BI/III

I have been working on cockpit subs and finished the I.p. I had decided to use the kit individual instrument decals and not get an am part. That was a mistake because although the decals are commendably thin with no carrier film, they curl and don’t hold together well. In the end I only...

The Border Models 1/32 Lancaster BI/III

More work on internal subs before I get the airbrush out. Brilliant detail, but again the instructions leave a lot to be desired. Part B53 is a light shade that needs to be attached by ‘rigging’ and exactly where it needs to be located is not made clear. I worked out where I thought...

The Border Models 1/32 Lancaster BI/III

I have managed an earlier start than expected, my lady decided to go for a swim in the sea (yes, the sea in December and has been doing so almost daily), she is mad, I know, but it leaves me free to get on the bench. I have built up some of the cockpit sub-assemblies to the stage where I need...

    Best model you ever made?

For me it is between two 1/32 Tamiya kits, the Mosquito and Corsair. They

The Border Models 1/32 Lancaster BI/III

I have completed my little ‘side build’ of the two Merlin’s, a Packard and a Rolls Royce For those who dont know the B1 Lancaster had Rolls Royce Merlin’s while the BIII Lancaster had Packard built Merlin’s. Given this kit includes both Merlin’s it occurred to me that it would be nice to see...

The Border Models 1/32 Lancaster BI/III

I have grabbed an hour to get the build organised. While this aircraft is physically smaller than the Liberator, it has by far the largest number of parts and sprues of any of my builds. There are 22 sprues in all to get labelled and organised. Fortunately Border, or perhaps I should say...

    The HobbyBoss 1/32 B24D Liberator.

I have been doing a thorough dusting of shelves and models along with a full clean up of my modelling room. I have also sorted out my displays and here is the B24 in its new permanent home. You can see how big it is with a 1/24 Hs129 and Raiden sitting under the wings!

The Border Models 1/32 Lancaster BI/III

I probably won’t get a chance to start cutting plastic until January but I might as well get started with the post… Here is the box As for aftermarket, I will definitely be using these And these I seem to have two sets of canopy masks. Whether elements of both will be used or just one set...

    Completed: HobbyBoss 1/32 B24D Liberator

This is probably the largest injection moulded aircraft that you can get with its 42 inch wingspan. The main issue was with the size and the problem of working the kit without the extremities getting knocked around! The fit is good to very good, the detail is OK and the accuracy not great...

    The HobbyBoss 1/32 B24D Liberator.

Almost there … Only the front greenhouse to position with the guns inside. A bit of a delay though as I found that my non-fogging c.a. has dried up! At this time of year I cannot quickly get a replacement which means I need to use pva glue that has no ‘bite’ and takes time to dry. It won’t...

    The HobbyBoss 1/32 B24D Liberator.

Plenty of progress and now on the home run. I applied a Flory surge wash overall to bring out the panel lines and to tone down the clean paint look and followed up with matt coats. After the matt coat I got on with more weathering. Exhaust wash on the exhausts and airbrushed some exhaust...

    The HobbyBoss 1/32 B24D Liberator.

I have applied the decals but it did not go as planned. Originally I wanted to do the ‘Squaw’ markings from Kits World however, for the first time ever, Kits World let me down. First the roundels were beautifully thin but they curled at the edges and I had a hell of a job to ‘uncurl’ them. In...

    The HobbyBoss 1/32 B24D Liberator.

I have got in with some detail painting. After masking up I sprayed the wing, tail and stab leading edges with steel. Also I sprayed the exhausts with Pale Burnt Metal then shaded them with Burnt Iron. These need some more work with washes and pigments. That will need to wait a bit...

    The HobbyBoss 1/32 B24D Liberator.

All masked up ready to paint the sand. To paint this requires more contortions than I have ever tried before. First I did areas best acceded froM below Then I turn it over…. And finished. For the first time since using MRP I did get some splatter toward the end of the session...
