    The HobbyBoss 1/32 B24D Liberator.

Work has progress on the internals but before I can close her up there is a lot more fitting work to do. First a dry fit of the two fuselage sides without the full internals fitted. I must get that fitting perfect before I even start to work on getting the rest into place. As you can see...

    The HobbyBoss 1/32 B24D Liberator.

Progress has slowed a bit due to my back problems. Seen my osteopath today for a treatment and had some advice over my seating position. Hopefully the pace of the build will pick up again. That said I have made some positive progress. The port fuselage side is done. It’s been a...

    The HobbyBoss 1/32 B24D Liberator.

Time to work on that awful turret seam and to see how I can get the best out of it. I have to say that though many B24 ‘experts’ slam these kits most for the wing profile, which really is impossible to correct, it’s the turret engineering that I consider to be the worse error. At least, when...

Now it’s time to see if I can fit the rear turret to the aircraft as part of final fittings instead of before cementing the fuselage halves together. It is obvious that the turret ring needs to be glued to the turret base plate to give me any chance of that. As I am not at all interested in...

    The HobbyBoss 1/32 B24D Liberator.

Working on the rear turret. After painting I removed the internal masking (fortunately the Montex set had internal masks which made things easier). A wash and a bit of dry brushing and I am able to fit the guns in behind panels. This needs to dry before I move to the next part of this...

I posted earlier about the Uschi Metal Powders. Looking at Scale Model Shop they are about £10 per jar and that seems expensive. But… I most commonly use the Chrome effect type and if you buy just one of them that is the one I would recommend. I have used this on every single build except...

    The HobbyBoss 1/32 B24D Liberator.

The first 50 cal brass gun barrel glued in place with ca. I have some tricky painting to do inside the transparency. This is also the rear turret so it has that horrible join. This is the worse thing about this kit and I will just have to make the most of it. At least with the D it’s only...

Interior done so far slotted into the fuselage side. Lots more interior work to do though.

Bombs attached and the forward internal section attached to the mid-internal section. Turrets are next.

One of my favourite and most versatile products, that I use on every build are the Uschi Metal Powders. They come in three types Chrome effect, Steel effect and Iron effect. In the picture below the bomb on the left has been painted, a brown wash applied to take the edge of newness off the...

That’s interesting Jakko I decided to use this picture as the basis for my build.

There being no issues with the seams I have sprayed the yellow. Tomorrow I will mask the bands and spray Olive Drab.

    The HobbyBoss 1/32 B24D Liberator.

The bombs are not as tedious to pull together as I thought largely because they fit really well so the seam clean up went painlessly. The first stage next is to paint them with a sand yellow primer. This will provide a good base for the yellow ring which I will mask off with 4ml masking tape...

The bomb bay comes together really well. Parts nicely click into place though they have rather thick sprue gates to clean up, but then that’s just what you can expect with such large parts. The above will need painting Neutral Grey before attaching bombs. Also there is the structure for the...

    The HobbyBoss 1/32 B24D Liberator.

I am making slow but sure progress. Nose wheel well and undercarriage are done and fixed to the ‘pit. The fit is good but tolerances are tight. The metal u/c leg has a comforting weight to it and I will need a lot of weight to get this firm on its tricycle undercarriage. A problem for a...

I have completed the cockpit sub-assembly. I have now started working on the nose wheel and wheel well. The fit so far is very good.

I have started work on the cockpit. It needs some more work before I start attaching the 3D decal details. I have to say that the Kits World 3D Decals are not great and I had to go online to find placement information and that is far from comprehensive. Red Fox and Quinta are far superior in...

    Superglue

I have just used some different superglues that I have not tried before and I have been impressed. Firstly, for some time I have used Ammo Black Slow Dry for filling fine seams. This works really well and I team it up with Mr Dissolved Putty for this purpose. New to me are the following...

Here she is, the big one……. The biggest model I have attempted and, most likely, the biggest injection moulded aircraft produced. (So far - a 1/32 Sunderland anyone???) There are issues with this kit, two in particular, the wing aerofoil profile is wrong but that is something I cannot really do...

    Complete. Trumpeter 1/32 P38 Lightning.

A nice kit, a few issues but they are not too bad. A surprise were the decal quality, supplied by Eagle Productions they are far better than anything produced by any other Trumpy kit I have found. That said most markings are painted with 1 Man Army Masks.
