Gern's Revell 1/35 GTK Boxer sgSanKfz

Made some progress but by all the Gods it's slow going. I've already said I'm using EMA Plastic Weld as my Tamiya cements have real trouble with this plastic. Trouble with EMA is that it evaporates so quickly - literally in the time it takes to get the brush out of the bottle and lined up with...

PJ's 1/24 Italeri Transit Police Van

's about time for some progress pics. This is the second time I've been involved with this kit and it's just as good as I remembered. No issues with fit anywhere and only tiny bits of flash to deal with. If anyone wants a 'shake 'n' bake' Transit kit, this is the one...

What am I missing about this advert?

There's a TV advert at the moment from one of those companies that allow you to trace your family history. This particular advert shows a man and woman sleeping together. The voice-over tells us that this is Wendy and her husband Alan has just found out that one of his forebears was in the...

    Money puzzle

My brother sent this to me today - the sadistic b****r! Suppose you have £50 for your birthday and want to spend it. You write down two columns. One showing how much you spend and one showing how much you have left. Like so: Spent Money left Now start filling in the amounts: Spent...

Gern's Revell 1/35 GTK Boxer sgSanKfz

Made some progress. It's much bigger than I thought. Gotta start splashing paint around before I fit the driver's compartment but as I'll have the thing on it's back a lot while I'm fitting all the underside bits, I'll leave that until later. Couple of points though. PJ had a go at an old...

PJ's 1/24 Italeri Transit Police Van

This is what I recommended to PJ for this GB. Some of you will remember I butchered this some while ago to create an old, neglected van used by the rock group 'Blood Angels'. Hopefully PJ will end up with a pristine, well-maintained Police van. Meanwhile, sprue shots:

And we're off. Sprue shots for my GB build. Seems a lot of parts for what looks like a box on wheels.

    Decisions, Decisions................

A short story about decision making:

    Don't understand.

Hi guys, just put a new post in 'The Amusement Park' section. How come it - and many of the previous posts there - don't appear under 'Recent Posts'?

    Here again!

Some time ago, I asked about an issue I had with Vallejo paint not drying. Well I'm here again with the same issue. PJ sprayed some VMA Aluminium, thinned about 10% with water and well mixed, on his GB Mustang last week. When he picked it up to do more work on it today, it was still slightly...

    Magnifying spectacles

Hi guys. Went to my opticians today to find I needed new specs. Nothing too serious, he thinks my eyesight is pretty good for an old guy. While there, I asked him about magnifying specs - the sort you can wear over your existing glasses - for close up work. He has recommended I try a set with...

    Tamiya X-22 gloss varnish.

Hi guys. I used some really well shaken Tamiya gloss varnish for the first time yesterday. It was sprayed at about 25psi using a 0.4mm nozzle on top of Tamiya XF paint which had had 3-4 hours to dry. My question is, how come I've got a better matt finish than I would have done if I'd used a...

    Impasse

Green stuff added: My Chambers dictionary defines 'Impasse' as: a situation from which further progress is impossible; a deadlock, stalemate. So: For the 'ologists' - I know! If it makes you feel happier, imagine this as a deleted scene from one of the 'Jurassic Park' films! :smiling:

    Impasse

OK. Now for the magic bit! first I mixed up three very thin washes with these: Then splash on the first colour (I used that magnificent brush you've already seen) anywhere you like, regardless of where it runs; I covered quite a bit as I wanted a fairly light colour overall. I followed...

    Tamiya putty

Hi folks. PJ used some Tamiya putty to fill a seam on his Mustang build. He added the putty last week and has just tried to sand it smooth. Problem is, it's not fully set. Anyone got any ideas why? It's been sat in my lounge all week so it's not been exposed to any cold or damp conditions.

    Impasse

While waiting for the filler to set up, I thought I'd prepare some 'grass'. Start with some faux fur. Spread a little common or garden housepaint using tiny little spots of paint on your fingers - making sure it's well rubbed in and spread around. And you get this: I may have to go...

    Impasse

OK. Got all the rocks done. Waiting now for the filler to set before I trim the box sides. I'll have to seal the foam with a PVA/water mix as the washes I'll be using to colour the rocks would otherwise soak into it. I don't know if that would have any effect but no point taking chances.

    Impasse

Take 2. I thought I had enough rocks already cast to create the groundworks - I didn't. There were too many gaps that needed to be filled. Rather than struggle to remove bits I'd already fixed using 'No More Nails', which would have broken either the foam or the cast rocks or both, I scrapped...

    Chop/Mitre saw

Hi guys. Has anyone ever used a mini benchtop chop/mitre saw similar to this: I still have big problems making square cuts and thought something like this would help. It looks OK for small section wood and metal, but I suspect the cutting speed of 7800 rpm is more likely to melt plastic...
