    Su47 Berkut

Primer coat on! first time with Tamiya XF-2 Flat White, took several million coats to get any opacity! Next colour? Signal Red! Miko (moving along)

    Su47 Berkut

Well this thing just falls together, the fuselage, wings and empennage assembly went together in ten minutes! minimal clean up needed because of thoughtfully placed sprue gates, the tab and slot fitting is almost like a 'snap kit' type of fit, tiny bit of filler needed, probably because I got...

    Su47 Berkut

The cockpit is very sparse, a simple seat and control column, you'd think such an advanced jet would have HOTAS? The instructions call for a grey/blue interior and matt black seat, that's it! I painted the interior 'what if' blue and added a little speculative detail to the seat, there are...

    Latest Acquisitions (2024)

Hasegawa 1/72 2013 edition of a Fuji T1a ,another shiny metal jet from Japan's research and development unit Gifu air base in central Japan, Miko (the manufacturer Fuji was the new name for the pre war Nakajima aircraft company)

    Su47 Berkut

I've competed my prebuild rituals, last build done, (no one loves the 'shelf of doom'!) cleared the bench of clutter, checked tools and materials, selected paints, made a nice cup of tea and got a few biscuits so I can sit and study the instructions for a while! maybe a YouTube search for...

    Lockheed T33A 'checker'

Unfortunately real life got in the way of completing this one in 24hrs. Still, I'm happy with it Photo gallery here Miko (onwards and upwards!)

    Lockheed T33A 'checker' JASDF

a 1969 vintage kit that cost around a tenner, it's difficult to find fault given it's age, went together well, a bit fiddly in places and primitive to kits just a short time later, I assume styrene injection molding in those days was still being perfected as the ejection pin and small sink marks...

The aircraft photo you took you like most!

This one, it's not much of an aircraft but I really like this photo, the rusty barbwire topped concrete wall not quite concealing one of the Soviet Union's most enigmatic cold wat jets! Well beyond it's glory days with fading weathered paintwork but still proudly displaying it's 'Red Star' in...

    Su47 Berkut

preping my next build while stuff is setting curing drying on my last. Su47 Berkut (golden eagle) was a 'one off' experimental technology demonstrator first flight September 1997. One of two HobbyBoss kits I have in the stash (the other T50 PAK-FA) the parts count seems quite low and the...

Most decals on. . . Gotta go! Back later. . . Miko (maybe thirty hours, not twenty four?)

    Lockheed T33A 'checker'

Wensleydale, surely? Ha! Not sure I'll get this one done in 24hrs, I have to go out for a few hours soon. Got the top coat on, very little contrast, what I'd usually do is mask off areas and spary with matt varnish, really helps with making it look more interesting. The canopy needs a little...

    Lockheed T33A 'checker'

I wasn't happy with the Humbrol MC11 'orange facings' which I think is a Napoleonic figures colour? So, out with the airbrush, the colour density isn't good, this is a result of at least ten coats! The canopy is fixed with PVA white glue, this is so maybe at a later date I can remove it and...

    Lockheed T33A 'checker'

Gap filling and surface prep completed and primer applied, polished aluminium applied to landing gear doors Reminds me of how I used to build as a teenager Miko (about ready for a kip!)

    Lockheed T33A 'checker'

Thing goes together really well considering it's age and flash, but once cleaned up it's needs the slightest hint of filler. I'm leaving the nose cone off for now to add ballast later, no one like a tail sitter (except warbird entusiasts!) Now for a well deserved. . . Miko (biscuits are...

    Lockheed T33A 'checker'

Deflashed and cleaned up the parts, considering there's just thirty I'm sure I can work out which bit goes where after taking from the sprues Very little detail in the cockpit just rudimentary seats and instrument panels, not even a joystick! So best to get it as matte black as possible, the...

    Lockheed T33A 'checker'

Go! The sprue cutting has begun, lots of flash considering the age of the kit, the mold goes back a couple of decades before this early eighties pressing. No too much colour on this one, but I'm using Humbrol enamels, so drying time is critical! Miko (against the clock!)

    Lockheed T33A 'checker'

I reckon I can build this one in a day. . . This is it! seven stages and about thirty pieces. Miko (I'm off to limber up and do some pre build yoga! Ha! squeeze some tubes stir some paint fix a new blade in the Xacto!)

    Keeping missus Miko happy

At the moment my modelling space is a simple IKEA 'Lack' coffee table under the window in the lounge, this can be irksome to 'she who must be obeyed' having what she calls 'all you clutter' in our living space, so, I needed to think more aesthetically, gone are the cardboard boxes and clip top...
