    Doug's 1/48 Airfix Sea King

Few bits done today, not a great deal as I had some basic errors to reconcile!!! Whist priming the King I forgot to add some liquid mask to some of the holes and points I would need to connect a few external bibs and bobs to. So I spent some time reboring holes and scraping out grooves that take...

Help - Mr Hobby paint colours

Having problems converting Mr Hobby paints C20 - Light Blue and C73 Light Grey to Vallejo Air or even colour for my up and coming Russian Helix KA27 build. I have been looking for ages now and my brain cell has hit a road block!! Seems paint makers have lots of choice for Russian Air Force but...

    Doug's 1/48 Airfix Sea King

Huzzah!!!! At last I made contact with my SK!! (Thank goodness for family keeping SWMBO busy!!!!) I managed to successfully spray some clear green over the upper cockpit windows!! That led on to the fitting of the whole port access door prior to paint!! Feeling good, I then decided to continue...

    Latest Acquisitions (2024)

Hurrah!! Post managed to deliver my item a couple of days late. Royal Mail - what a waste of time!! Anyway, my latest acquisition. A big thank you to me for buying it for me. Hopefully it will free up a hand when fitting fiddly bits where a third hand would be favourable!!! My new bench vice...

Scoured the internet looking for conversion charts for Hobbyboss to Vallejo and have come up with Zilch. Anyone able to point me in the right direction? Doug

    Latest Acquisitions (2024)

Post arrived this morning!!! New nippers as the current ones are real cheapies, functional but cheap. I said to myself if I was enjoying the building I would upgrade so here they are. Also a can of undercoat as I am less than impressed with the Vallejo Light Grey that I have been using. See...

    Greetings from the South Atlantic!

Hope you don't mind Barry but a few pics from 86. Stanley and the approach the ground forces would have fought over. Stanley from the Sound. A downed Pukara. A few locals.

    Question regards pre-shading.

Thanks Tony that makes sense. I ask as there is an area on the Sea King, the tail cone. It suffers from 'panting' where the skin of the airframe distorts slightly due to aerodynamic stresses in flight. I may be able to use the 'squiggle' method to replicate that!!

    Question regards pre-shading.

Need to upgrade my knowledge base. I'm fairly happy with the concept of pre-shading but what I am asking about is where do you apply the pre shading. IE to exact panel lines or to stress lines or what? Also chasing the colour of the pre shade. What determines the pre shade colour? Thanks in...

    Greetings from the South Atlantic!

They were the reason we visited in 86. Plus mail delivery!!! We had free reign to look all over Grytviken, very interesting looking at the damaged whaling boats, harpoon heads and bronze lying all over the place. The wildlife was astounding. I waited ages to capture a pic of a pup waiting for a...

    Greetings from the South Atlantic!

I take it you visited Shackleton's grave? (Only because I see the church behind you and your lad). Bad pic due to the rotors intruding into the image!! Grytviken Church.

    Weather is annoying me now!!

When is the weather going to get warmer??????? It is seriously curtailing my ability to progress my Sea King. I am itching to start airbrushing but with either humidity or outside air temps being too low I am having to talk to the wife and do all sort of odd jobs I have successfully put off for...

    Greetings from the South Atlantic!

    Doug's 1/48 Airfix Sea King

Today's foray into the garage gave me time to get it more looking like an airframe. (Albeit a decrepit airframe but an airframe non the less). The tail transmission cover had a wee bit that the destruction said remove - so it was removed. Pic 1 Arrow showing the offending piece that was to be...

    Doug's 1/48 Airfix Sea King

Determined today to get something done. Too cold the past few days, today was bordering on cold but very wet!!! So - a quick dash to the garage and a catch up on what was going on with the King!!! Took some measurements of the cabin doorway and sea tray ready for the finishing off of the sea...

    Doug's 1/48 Airfix Sea King

Brrrr, it's been a tad cold to work in the garage of late. But I have grabbed a few minutes here and there. Clear windows have been added to the fuselage and duly masked up with a mix of tape and liquid mask in preparation for some decent spraying weather. Having been given an idea by Chris aka...

    Latest Acquisitions (2024)

Just arrived, I guess I now have a 'stash'. A whole 1!!!! Impressed me as next to the U/C the rotor head has to be the a weak point - BUT. They supply a metal shaft!! More pics later - maybe!! (Wedding anniversary precludes any other activities today!!) Yet another helicopter!!

Next build? But what will it be?

Nope, it's not pretty but I do like the co-axial rotor set up. Beats having a tail rotor!!! Mind you, this is the one that worries me!! Intermeshing rotors. Two rotor heads sitting at an angle to each other and the blades going through each rotors path!!! If one gearbox fails!!!! I dread to...

Andy, regards the upper wing fit, could you not trim the arrowed section as below? Would that give you a better fit???
