    Latest Acquisitions (2021)

Just had a delivery - new tweezers (£4.39) and batteries (£1.57) for the magnifying visor Still waiting for a kit, so that I can test them all out  ;) The tweezers came from the same supplier that I use for watch tools, very keen on prices and a good attitude.

Anyone else who has done only one model of a subject?

I've only ever done one model of a civilian car, which was the Revell Trabant - first and last car I've done and can't really see me doing any more. Anyone else who has just done one of a type - be it a plane, tank, car etc?

    Tamiya 1/35 BMW R75 outfit

Now the planning process for the dio - it's going to be fairly large (2 more vehicles) and use the photo to 'extend' it - rock will be attacked with a hammer to get the right size

Hobbyboss vs Tamiya 1/35 figures vs others?

Never tried Hobbyboss figures, what are they like - detail/poseability etc.? Have done (in the past) Airfix 1/32 and coming onto the Tamiya figures was disappointed in that the Tamiya aren't that poseable (heads only in a very limited way side to side (when not molded to the body) - opposed to...

    Tamiya 1/35 BMW R75 outfit

Guess that I might as well call this one 'finished' - still got the piles of stuff (coats, ammo box, etc. etc.) that was 'pulled out of the sidecar' to do, the rock (which is represented by the plastercine) and final weathering/mud etc. which will be done once the dio it's going on gets finalized.

    Kit complexity?

I got the wrong kit number - it was the 35195 kit, so probably later, but looking at the 'detailing' of stuff, got 3 different 'quality' from over the years/kits that we've done - going down in 'quality' from top to bottom an 'entrenching spade' with the knife/short sword attached

    Kit complexity?

So is there any sort of 'league table' of kit complexity, any 'beginner' to 'years of experience needed' sort of thing - looking around the forum, you can see that no matter the kit, people can and do add their own 'take'. My thought was sort of along the lines of Airfix - suitable for the...

    All the gear..no idea!!

Regards the magnification thing, I use one of these off eBay, (cheapy (about £6.50) but works for the inside of watches as well) up to 3.5x magnification.

    Tamiya BMW R75/ sidecar

Decided to get some of the 'kit' painted, as it's going to be put into a dio, thought that I might as well go through what was in the 'spares' tub, as not sure what I'll be using, so I thought that I'd do the lot! Still got 9 jerry cans to assemble, plus a few boxes, (tried to increase the...

    Webbing

Hi Tim, might have to try it out at some stage, but at the moment, I am getting reasonable results - heel irons, collar tabs and webbing done with the fountain pen style brush (Photo for reference only)

How to have a plane in flight?

Ok, probably a simple answer to this, but I've been thinking of a dio that requires a plane in flight, just prior to it 'clipping' a building, two ways I've thought of that might work, but any others? 1) use a piece of clear plastic to support the plane (ok will need to be 'matt' so it doesn't...

Got a few 'other' interests, from watches to airguns

As I'm off to get my first dose of the covid19 vaccine, dug out the 'Stop Covid' watch

    After 1 35 chain?

Not sure if it'll be small enough, but what about a bit of an old silver jewelry chain - some of those are tiny. I'll have a look in my O&S box and see what I've got. Though this one isn't suitable (box link & gold) gives an idea of how small they go - the rifle is a 1/35 Mauser I'll be able to...

    Tamiya BMW R75/ sidecar

Nearly there - still got a fair bit to get done, but at least I can see where it's heading! Will have to start on the dio soon, so that I can match the mud/soil onto the boot soles etc.

    Tamiya BMW R75/ sidecar

Thanks Jim, helps that I've got a cheapy set of magnifying glasses (don't think that I could have done most of this without them, what with my eyesight) using them with the 2.5x lens in.

    Tamiya BMW R75/ sidecar

A little bit of work later, plus finding out that I haven't got any 'flesh' paint (so mixed up a little using randome tan and brick red) and they've turned out 'passible'

    Tamiya BMW R75/ sidecar

Start point (the marks show where the filler ran) two figures from the 'spares' tub, tempted to remove the jackets and have the sleeves rolled up. The standing figure needs some more work to his forehead (bit 'neandethal' at the moment)

    Tamiya BMW R75/ sidecar

And I'd like to know - who decided to put padlocks onto the panniers??????? Now to leave them to dry, and get a cotton bud (Q-tip for our colonial cousins) and polish them up (humbrol polished steel)

    Tamiya BMW R75/ sidecar

Realised that the backs of the panniers would be showing (or at least the corners would be) so thanks to the person (sorry, can't remember the post, or I'd credit with your name!) who uses tissue as tarpaulins on here who supplied the answer! Backs now painted and now drying!

    Tamiya BMW R75/ sidecar

On the 'home straight' now, just the final few bits of assembly, finish the mud splattering - then it's the figures to do (not the ones that came with the kit)
