    Queen Mary

Hi, I’m not sure what you call these bollard things on the boat deck, (the white plastic thing) presume they were to tie the ship to the docks etc. Anyway, these look rediciloisly big on my model and I’m sure looking at an actual picture below they are probably nearer half this size in reality...

    Queen Mary

I used some weathering carrier to try and water it down. It’s a bit lighter apart from Around edges but what you think. The tide marks seem to have come out and of course the bumps (not sure what the proper word for them is)around the edge will be painted black

    Queen Mary

So I pondered over how to paint the deck planking wood effect and found a few decent examples on YouTube. This basically amounts to five different shades of paint and two lots of masked planking to add a random effect. The final colour is a burnt umber wash which I probably should of thinner...

    Finding out decking plank lengths?

Morning, I’m currently trying to put together the Queen Mary 1 model but im struggling to find information on the deck planking lengths so I can use this to scale some masked planks on my model. I was wondering if anyone knows where this kind of info can be found or whether it’s a case of...

    Which do you paint first?

I’m still struggling a little with the idea of painting. Looking at this deck part alone you can see it is divided up into lots of small. Decking areas. I’m thinking almost to paint all white then brush in the decks after? I just can’t see how I’ll mask all the decks up to paint the white...

    Which do you paint first?

As mentioned before, this one is a slow burner but just to show some Small progress with the hull.

    Touching up technique

I’ve been painting the hull of my Queen Mary Ship and masked of the various colours. For most part this has work quite well but inevitably there always seems to be a small about of airbrush paint that creeps under the tape. What’s the best method of touching in as brushing usually looks to...

    Which do you paint first?

I’m currently undertaking the RMS Queen Mary and its the first boat I’ve ever made. mostly the boat is white painted with the wood coloured decking. my question is which do you paint first and why, the decking or the white structures! im just trying to decide which makes it easier as if I paint...

    ICM 1/32 Gloster Gladiator Mk1

I saw the attached where a makeshift jig was cut to suit plane and then skewers or slim sticks poked into it to hold everything in place. Never tried it myself but looked like it worked.

    Short Sunderland iii

I’ve just about finished this one . It has had some challenges. I had some painting issues and just to top it whilst weathering it with lots of dirty panel Liner I managed to also panel Line my desk and carpet as well. I decided to Leave off the landing wheels as in My opinion they ruined the...

Clean up after spilling AK panel liner

So I accidentally spilt my AK panel liner on the desk and some dripped onto the carpet. I tried using white spirits amongst other things to get it out of the carpet but I can still see some of the brown looking stain. Does anyone know of anything better to use or any methods to remove this stuff?

    Queen Mary

So I’m getting quite a collection of models under my desk to make but this particular one was given to me to make by a friends parents. I’ve never completed a boat before so this is definitely new territory for me. I guess if you got to start somewhere it might as well be the Queen Mary. Not...

    What jig?

I was looking at these jigs to support your model Aircraft. I make a combination of scales from 1:72 to 1:32 so need something suitable. I noticed theshop has several options but it’s hard to tell which one is more appropriate for my use. i see the Evo 7248 Vertigo VMP005 which looks like it...

    Short Sunderland iii

I sprayed the second colour(dark grey) although I think the hot temperature was causing some issues with the airbrush paint drying almost as it hit the surface leaving a rough texture. I rubbed it back carefully and re-sprayed it but it’s not the best job ever. Hopefully a coat of laquer at the...

    Short Sunderland iii

So I haven’t spent any time modelling the last week or so due to work and heat but I managed to mask the plane up today whilst it’s a bit cooler and applied a coat of green on. I’m away for a few days so will add some Blutack worms when I return ready for the second camo colour. At least it’ll...

    Collector or Hoarder

I’m sure there’s a diagnosis for this behaviour but when I first started building models earlier in the year it was buy one, build one but now it appears I’m buying them faster than I can build them. Is there a cure? carl

    Painting curves

It’s not the first time I have come across having to mask curved shapes for painting but this one is quite a tight curve. I am interested to know what methods of masking you would use to create such tihhht curves on your model. I have shown the curve in the pink circle On the picture below.

    How long is too long?

Would a pack of mobile phone screws do the same thing. Would be silver but they look similar in size. These can be bought on Ebay.
