    Airfix North American P-51D Mustang - 1/48

Just picked this up on a sort of impulse buy. Only £20 so a decent price from my local shop which can be a bit hit and miss with choice. It's a bit like a rumage sale in there sometimes and a few older looking boxes. But this stood out as a bright shiney box. I normally check on Scalemates to...

    Next Build

My intention was to build a 1/350 ship like the Tirpitz as I've always liked building those. Some of the Japanese ships are really nice but too expensive IMO, especially with Tamiya. Or I could go for a tank as something I wouldn't normally do. But which one ? I don't want it too simple so any...

1/48 Revel Bristol Beaufighter TF. X

Not putting too much up on this as Paintguy did one earlier but just to confirm his issue with fitting fuselage to wings I have had the same and a tad more of a problem. Not a good fit at all. But by careful chiseling away and a few taps with a hammer its getting there. Bit of filler on view as...

    Mixing Colours

Not having any Revel colours I have really enjoyed mixing tiny amounts of Vallejo Air paints to get the colour I need, or in many cases prefer for small components. I know we have flexibility in this area but its more fun than I thought. Mixing Rust with Signal Blue and a touch of black to get a...

    Tamiya Supermarine Spitfire Mk 1 - 1/48

Finally done. Made a dumb mistake of spraying the matt after demasking the cokpit... wont do that again but it looks OK considering

    Box of Bits

I'm probably going to answer my own question but even after my first couple of builds I have a small collection of bits left over. Both optional bits and decals. I assume everyone keeps these, just in case and for use in any future builds ? I hate throwing good parts away so I guess I'll keep them.

    Final Coat of Matt

I've glossed with Pledge and put the decals on. I'm not doing any more weathering so can I just finish off as I usually do with a matt varnish to seal the decals and give me the look I want ?

    Tamiya Supermarine Spitfire Mk 1 - 1/48

Idea of what the pencil lines look like. None of them appear as dark as around the flaps. And they really discrete. Just sprayed floor polish on so decals next

    Panel Lines Experiment

I found a very short You Tube video that suggested using a HB4 pencil on panel lines prior to varnishing. There are a few but I like this simple one. I suspect you guys know all about this but it was new to me. I've tried it on my Spitfire on the Sky S underside and its very subtle. I like it...

    Next Level Up Airbrush Advice

The Fengda 130 I got with the compressor is OK but having played with a Iwata Revolution in a shop it feels more substantial. I also have a bottom feeder Clarke from Alan which works fine. But I do like the gravity fed. But if I am going down that route of an up to £100 airbrush would the Neo...

1/48 Revel Bristol Beaufighter TF. X

Doing bits as I wait for paint to cure on my Spitfire but have managed to do the cockpit. Added some etched seat belts from the Tamiya Spitfire kit. I'll probably stop now until Spit is finished

Stynylrez Thin or Not To Thin That is the.....

I have a 0.3 needle only at the moment and I gather a little thinning is recommended ? Read various percentages for priming with Stynylrez. 50/50 seems the most common but that seems a bit too thin. But I’d appreciate any advice please

    Tamiya 1/48 P-38 Lightning

I'm not saying his company uses child labour.......but

    Tamiya Supermarine Spitfire Mk 1 - 1/48

Slow progress but I'm taking my time as I collect paints etc However I have just done the top and I did get a bit of masked paint coming off just in front of the cockpit. Wonder if thats because I don't usually prime even though I cleaned the plane before spraying ? But otherwise I'm delighted...

    “Best” Aluminium Paint

I’ve been using Vallejo Air Aluminium paint for the small parts but I have been disappointred in the finish. I haven’t been priming with black to be fair which I will do as I read that makes the aluminium pop. I have been adding a drop of Tamiya Chrome which seems to help and will try on a dark...

    Mottled Camoflauge Techniques

Searching high and low for decent videos on getting the mottled black and white camoflauge you see on German planes in Northern Europe. I've some with tiny peices of sponge, other using the airbrush close in and creating ting sqiggles, one using airbrush to produce elongated dots and so on. I'm...

My New Desk - How Exciting is That

I hope you are all sitting down. Only £83 and bought it from Wayfair until we move and then will probably get a larger one. But it will do except it fell apart whilst building so called Wayfair, who are excellent, who gave me a refund straight away and told me to throw it away. But using some...

    Reassembling my Airbrush

I have a cheap but OK Fengda pro airbrush that came with my AS-186. I have taken it apart a few times and cleaned it without a problem. But this time I questioned how far the needle stop/needle spring chucking guide that screws into the rear of the rear of the body should screw in. When I got it...

    Advice on Varnish Types

I have a can of AK matt and gloss varnish but I'm not happy with the spray it puts down even with the so called fine mist cap. As I mainly use Vallejo paints it's easier to look at their range for airbrushing. Is it fair to say that their Gloss and Matt varnishes are OK, I assume yes but I need...

    Tamiya Supermarine Spitfire Mk 1 - 1/48

Taking it steady as I'm airbrushing for the first time. Enjoying it a lot but update is only the underside in Sky Type S. Picture doen't do it anything like justice though as the colour is even and solid without affecting any of the detail. The picture looks patchy and uneven which it's not in...
