Airfix 1/72 Red Arrows Hawk. A quick build!

I bought this for the sum of £6.50 incl. p/p. Apart from the kit, it includes the 'awful' paints, so called gloopy glue and cheap brush. I intend to use all of them. ;);) Here's the box art. I forgot to take pictures of the sprues.:upside: Old, basic kit, nice pilot detail though. No fuss...

A lucky few minute's encounter with a Red Arrow!

Last month there was the annual Air Show at Rhyl (N. Wales) The aircraft route to the show is always over our area, so my wife and I looked at what was appearing during the two days of the display. Some oddities, a Lancaster and the Red Arrows.... After the show, the Red Arrows drop in to...

Airfix - With me firmly kneeling on a prayer mat!

A while ago I bought the Airfix 1/72 Lancaster Bomber kit from a BBMF presentation set. This I purchased privately. I knew beforehand it had been opened and it was delivered to me as such. It arrived well packaged. I gave the contents a quick once over and put it to one side....... Last week I...

Completed. Hobbyboss 1/200 USS Pegasus 'flying' at 40+ knots.

Despite me moaning in the build about the silly little plastic and P.E. bits, this is a very nice and unusual kit which makes up into a great little model. I had a tough time getting the hydrofoil 'waves and wash' summat like. I ended up layering the silicone and I used white cushion stuffing...

Hobby Boss 1/200 USS Hercules (PHM 2) Pegasus Class.

I've finally plucked up the courage to have a stab at the water element. A right pig to do, but after a few 'Speriments'.....( finally built up in layers rather like a 3D printer) Silicone waater and suitable messed with cushion stuffing on the a**e end. I used an old floor tile for the base...

    Research!

I did a bit of research to get the pink on the a**e end of my 'Tiger' summat like it was in the fillum! OOPS! Unsolicited image, but the temptation for a bit of fun was just too much....... Would the mods' kindly remove the pickie at their leisure, if you choose to do so. I thank you...

    Completed....The ship that wouldn't sink. USS Franklin. March 19th 1945 + 1 day

Whilst steaming within 50 miles of the Japanese mainland the carrier USS Franklin was attacked by a lone and undetected Japanese bomber. She was hit aft by two 500lb AP bombs. At the time of the attack all her aircraft on the flight and hanger decks were armed and ready to take off on a raid...

USS Franklin (CV13) 'The ship that wouldn't sink'. March 1945

A belated thanks Brian. I've finally got around to finishing this. Basic kit, but just what I needed for the subject matter. Here's a couple of pickies. I'll post some more over in 'Ships Completed' Thanks for all the great comments during the build. Cheers. Ron

USS Franklin (CV13) 'The ship that wouldn't sink'. March 1945

Thanks Pete and Rick. Pete, I'm glad you approve of my attempt to save the planet. Rick. She went over to 15 degrees+. Not through hull damage, but from the amount of water being pumped into her guts to quell the fires below deck. I've now added some hanging things (presumably scrambling...

USS Franklin (CV13) 'The ship that wouldn't sink'. March 1945

The carrier is now afloat at a rakish angle. I managed to find an old seascape in the loft. It had a hole in the middle from a previous occupant, so I had to cut and fit a wide strip of polystyrene in the hole and then re-cut the hole to suit Franklin. I try and re-cycle/ re-use stuff like...

USS Franklin (CV13) 'The ship that wouldn't sink'. March 1945

Jim and Paul. Thank you for your positive posts. :thumb2: A bit more work on the aft flight deck section. I'm leaving off all the A.A. stuff until later. I made the bent deck cross members (Whatever they are) out of paper and placed them over the bomb entry hole and the edge of the busted...

    ROKR Owl Clock kit.

Here's the finished owl. If you think, rather naively (As I initially did) that all the gears work the clock face. They don't. The clock is quite independent of all that and works via a simple, A.A. battery powered unit similar to any wall clock! The owl splits in two to reveal the little...

USS Franklin (CV13) 'The ship that wouldn't sink'. March 1945

Thanks to Steve and Dave for their comments. Update. I've filed and ground away any unnecessary snots and stringy bits. Also added some more dark paint here and there. Here's how the deck looks after the surgery. Next I'll add some detail and rubble etc. Cheers. Ron

USS Franklin (CV13) 'The ship that wouldn't sink'. March 1945

Thanks chaps. "Chrispy" I like that Andy. Dave, the clock build got took over by aliens...... ;) I'm working on different 'aspects' for the Pegasus water. 453, thank you for your very kind offer, but I am an arse nist of sorts meself....;);) We really should join forces! Rick. Don't...

USS Franklin (CV13) 'The ship that wouldn't sink'. March 1945

Thanks to Mick, Jim and Ian for your positive comments. The whole Franklin saga shows that the human spirit can prevail...... More blackening for fire and smoke damage. Next, I'll set about the flight deck damage. Time to light the gas ring on the cooker! Cheers. Ron

USS Franklin (CV13) 'The ship that wouldn't sink'. March 1945

Welcome Paul. The stern saw the worst damage, but there was fire along it's whole length, particularly the hanger deck...... I've started to blacken the vessel. Working vertically with my 'Yard brush', I slurried on some Dk. Grey acrylic and let it run where it liked. Next, a second...

USS Franklin (CV13) 'The ship that wouldn't sink'. March 1945

Thanks for the post Steve. Your carrier looks an interesting build. I'll look out for the start of it.... Update. Hanger deck and lower hull fitted, the 'Island' completed and I've brush painted the ship a light grey. I freehanded the boot topping as there is no need for any dead on neatness as...
