A little help?? Any Moderators or staff out there?

Hi all, sorry about the unusual request. My 13 year old son is completing his Duke of Edinburgh award and has to complete a number of sections one of which is entitled " Skill"... in effect he has to learn a new skill and he has decided to have a go at a bit of modelling. I am going to help him...

    U Boat Captain

Hi all Just about calling this finished now...I managed to repair the broken arm and found a bit of spare time to just finish off the final bits so with 2020 not even 2days old I’m calling my first build of the year finished!!! The light isn’t too good at the moment so I will probably take...

    U Boat Captain

Hi all, Just to let you know that I haven’t completely given up on this although I have suffered a couple of minor calamities! The main problem was the periscope is supported by the arms and it won’t stand straight unless the arms are completely aligned correctly... I should have worked this...

Which model gave you most satisfaction in 2019?

This one for me...partly because it’s one of the few I can call finished! Jason

"The surrender ( if looks could kill!)"

Hi all Thanks Ron...glad you like it. Thanks Andy... I’ve taken your advice and having woken to a blanket of frost over the last couple of days I dry brushed some white in there as well ...particularly on the grass. Thanks John... I thought fire rather than water was your thing.? Cheers Jim...

"The surrender ( if looks could kill!)"

Thanks Scottie, I think Andy suggestion re the puddles has been an improvement Thanks Peter.. you’re right I have used the bits of paper flying around in a few of my models... I think the inspiration came from this scene in the film “Downfall”...although I won’t be adding this many sheets...

"The surrender ( if looks could kill!)"

Cheers chaps... very much appreciated.... Andy, I do take your point regarding contrast in the puddles so I added the final layer in a lighter shade....finally a few leaves and some papers which need a bit of “dirtying”... I took a couple of shots at “ground level” to try to show what I,m...

"The surrender ( if looks could kill!)"

First layer of puddles in place... I think I may have gone a bit overboard but I can always dry it out a little as it’s a bit of a quagmire at the moment...now I’ve just got to let it set! I I’m going to apply a clear layer over the top of the deeper puddles and more papers and leaves will be...

"The surrender ( if looks could kill!)"

Hi all, I’m still awaiting the replacement arm so I thought I’d crack on with the base... I used a mixture of PVA and tissue paper to create a rough shape for the landscape... I then used some dirt from the garden which I microwaved dry and made finer with a mort and pestle and the seived out...

    U Boat Captain

Just put together with a bit of blutak to test the fit.... does anybody know if the base he’s resting his right leg on should have a lid...there wasn’t one supplied but it appears to have one in the image posted by Bortig in post #7? Thanks Jason

    U Boat Captain

Thanks Jack and Thanks Steve... it really is very much appreciated! ... anyway, still waiting for my replacement part for the “Surrender” build so on with “the old Man”.... or should I say the bottom half of the old man? I picked out a base from my charity shop hunting trips and although the...

    U Boat Captain

This is the basis of the model but as it’s black and white I would be grateful if anybody has a colour picture f this type of control for the periscope....

    U Boat Captain

Hi all, Some of you may have read under my “surrender” thread that whilst waiting for a replacement part I decided to make a start on a 1/16 U Boat captain that I’ve had in the stash for some time. This kind of breaks my personal rule of not starting another build until one is finished but it’s...

"The surrender ( if looks could kill!)"

Couple more... I’ve noticed a mould line running from the left temple downto the neck so I will have to put that right at some point Thanks Jason

"The surrender ( if looks could kill!)"

...on the plus side the enforced delay has given me the excuse to make a start on a slightly larger scale U Boat captain which I’ve had for quite a while.... I will probably post this under a different thread as it will get shelved once the replacement arm arrives... but here’s progress for...

"The surrender ( if looks could kill!)"

Hi all... Bit of a disaster to report I’m afraid... I was giving a paint bottle a vigorous shake and managed to bash my German figure on the head in the process! The result was a broken neck, hand snapped off at the wrist and a missing finger! my attempts at a repair are not good having made a...
