    Choice of putty?

Following my recent Post on sprue goo, I now need to buy some putty A Search through the Scale Models Shop shows that my choice seems to be - Vallejo AK Interactive, green or white Mr White Putty Is there anything to choose between them, or any other comments, please?

    Sprue goo?

My tube of filler putty is more or less finished, and I thought that instead of buying more I'd try making my own sprue goo, but I have a question - In the past when I've used too much tube glue this has softened the surrounding plastic and taken ages to fully dry and harden How do I prevent...

    I need another filler

For most of my modelling career I've used Squadron Green Putty, and I've been happy enough with it; unfortunately I hear it is no longer available But besides that, as I haven't been making as many kits as I used to, my current tube of Green Putty is drying out in the tube, despite keeping it in...

    Which FW 190 kit please?

I'm looking for a cheap (<£10) 1/72 Focke Wulf Fw 190 kit, but not the Airfix FW A-8 as I don't like it. Kingkit have several, by Hasegawa, Revell, Hobbyboss, Matchbox, Zvezda, Bilek, Italeri, Academy, Mastercraft, Heller Is there anything to choose between them? Or any I should avoid?

    Colourcoats paint

I brush paint with enamel paint, mostly Humbrol but over the years I've acquired & used various other brands Recently I've noticed a couple of things about enamel paint - I hear that changes to the rules & regulations, and the formulations mean that modern enamel paint is not as good as it used...

    Thinking of dying........

But not just yet, let me explain This has been prompted, sadly, by the deaths in recent months of a few family members and friends; plus there are always news reports of people of about my age dying I am a Baby Boomer, and a member of 'The Airfix Generation' Now at 71 I realise that it is...

    Dried filler

I have a tube of Squadron Products 'Green Stuff' modelling filler that is drying up - it has become quite stiff/thick and difficult to squeeze out of the tube, and doesn't stick as well as it used to. Is there any way I can soften it? What do you think about squeezing or cutting open the tube...

    Starting off my Grandsons

I would like to introduce my two Grandsons, aged 7 & 9 to plastic kits Do you think that is too young? Obviously they would have some help & supervision from me and their parents, though my daughter never made any kits, and my SIL just made a couple when he was a boy I would do the job...

    Moving to acrylics!

As a returnee I have a large collection of enamel paints, but they are getting a bit old & crusty (not unlike their owner) and a couple of the colours have irreversibly dried up so I thought I'd replace them with acrylics The only acrylic paints I have used so far have been the free Humbrol...

    Masters Brush Cleaner

Over the years I've used various brushes, mostly for enamels, but recently for some acrylic. No matter how careful I clean them, almost inevitably they become clogged with paint or damaged; or perhaps that's just me? Eventually they reach the state that they can hardly be used I've tried...

    ABC Brushes

I had been thinking about new brushes for a while, so when I saw the advert for abcbrushes I thought I'd try them They sell cosmetic seconds, meaning there may be minor faults in the appearance, but the brush head is OK There are various packages and options available, such as Fine Detail; All...

    Wargaming brushes?

I've been Searching t'Net for new brushes Besides brushes for general art painting and model making I've seen brushes described as being for wargaming. Well, as far as I can tell, they look pretty much the same as those for model making; is there any difference?

    Trumpeter paint mixer

I use mostly enamel paints, like Humbrol and similar small (14ml?) tins I've been browsing the Scale Model Shop and noticed the Trumpeter Paint Mixer, 09920. Is it any good? Easy to clean? Any danger of splashing paint out of the tin?

    Hurricane parts please

I've had a couple of old 1/72 Airfix Hurricane kits for years. They are the first edition from the 1950s or 1960s; I think they were described as Mk IV RP, and I think it's about time I did something with them; that is, something other than throw them out! So I've decided to make them up...

    WHY?

For years, nay, decades, I have used Squadron Products Green Putty. Logically enough, the putty is green and the printing on the tube is also green. I've just bought a new tube, and sure enough, the putty is green, and the printing on the tube reads 'Squadron Products Green Putty' But the...

    Acrylics for brush painting?

Firstly, I only do brush painting As a returnee I have a lot of enamel paints, mostly Humbrol standard/general and authentics/camouflage colours, so I've been using those But now I need to replace some of them I have found the equivalent colours in Humbrol's current range, but I've had another...

    A leaky tube

The threads on my tube of Green Putty are faulty so that the top will not screw down properly. I can't tell if it is the tube or the plastic cap that is at fault That means the filler at the open end of the tube is becoming quite hard; lately I've had to poke through with a metal rod to get...
