Desert Diorama - Featuring British ATMP x6 wheeler

Now that the ATMP x6 wheeler is done, it deserves a nice setting, so a small diorama is planned. This will be my first desert setting, so lots of sand, rocks, etc. I propose a small section of building, a small desert type dwelling/building of simple stone, etc. Then just a simple rough desert...

    New craft site

Might be worth maybe adding a few links to anything on the new site that might be useful to us on here, eg: paints, fillers, etc or whatever that we may also use?

    New craft site

@John Just to let you know, when I clicked on the above link, I got a "threat detected" message from my anti virus, (BitDefender) and when I clicked on the more info tab, it said the site had an expired certificate. No biggy, so I just added it to my exceptions list so it will not ping up...

    Freedom

Great news! Enjoy your retirement mate. I retired just under two years ago, but have settled into a nice routine. My one tip would be to keep yourself busy. Without "work" you lose that bit of routine and it would be easy to slip into just lounging around doing nothing, which, IMHO is not good...

    Latest Acquisitions (2026)

Got myself a small ship/boat holder/stand, as I have my new Airfix German Eboat to build in the not to distant future, and I don't really have a good stand, so I thought why not? It's a cheap and chearful one off Amazon, I thought is was coming from Amazon in the UK, but it did appear to come...

    Flying scotsman

Yep, I'd deffo look at one of those as a project / kit. Always wanted a train set as a young'n, but never got one. I've often thought about getting myself one now, but I know it would be yet another hobby rabbit hole that I would have to go down, and TBH there just ain't enough hours in the day...

    Peter's British ATMP - Gecko - 1/35 scale - Completed

TBH, I still need to "finesse" my models a bit better. I still leave too many little sink holes, don't trim, sand and file enough, still leave too many mould lines, don't thin and/or blend my paints and washes enough, sometimes add too much glue, etc, etc. Lol, where do I stop! Generally I am...

Best material for base board on a diorama?

Cheers, think I may have some hardboard (possibly 8mm) in the garage, so may investigate that option, its only going to be a small dio base, not too large.

    Debris

You may not have seen, just added couple of links... Some of those websites will do stowage too, plus don't forget Temu and Ali Express and Amazon and eBay.... On a couple of dioramas I've just used spare bit, lolly sticks, bits of foam, small rocks, gravel, twigs, plus filler, hodge pog, mud...
