    Rehashing Hurtgen forest diorama

Hi Guys, I missed the boat on this one. I still had six figures more to paint and some strong advice from my friends not to rush it as many details were still missing on the dio itself. The M36 Jackson wasn't even weathered. So it'll be for next year... enough time for details and the snow owl...

    Rehashing Hurtgen forest diorama

Hi guys, Not enough time to work on the building...bit by bit. At least the tank guys are looking cold this time.🤭 Still got new snow to add. Groundwork still halfway. Cheers, Wabble

I'm at the Ford Motor assembly line trying to clear these 25 figures... Cheers, Wabble

    Been thinking...

Yup, I wouldn't be able to finish my factory of 25 figures for my diorama if it wasn't for the trusty old airbrush. Base shadows and highlights achieved... now only the details left for the hairy stick like the face, weapons and webbing. Get the airbrush...a decent dual action 0.3 standard...

    Rehashing Hurtgen forest diorama

Yup loads of weathering using my concoction of oils, kerosene and turpentine. Seems to work just as well as the AK products and great to get back to them. Here are shots of basic pin wash and rust. Chipping will come next and final highlights. Trying very hard not to overdo it. Compared to...

    Rehashing Hurtgen forest diorama

Hi Guys, More free time to concentrate on this Dio. I gave the M10 a second coat of winter whitewash with chipping fluid and the results were much stronger. I added new stowage to the rear to cover the awful tools... will add rope tie downs later. Then I noticed something awkward about this...

Eehaw!!, a Donkey, a Bedouin and a Snake vignette

Morning I just snapped these with natural lighting... So it's finally done. I captured as many angles as possible. Gonna be picture heavy...enjoy. More coming next...

Eehaw!!, a Donkey, a Bedouin and a Snake vignette

I'm calling this done. The only angle I could get without the lamp lights creating extra shadows. Will try again with morning sunlight...more photos in the completed section tomorrow The coat of Matt varnish helped bring out the details which were covered by the shine from areas worked with...

Eehaw!!, a Donkey, a Bedouin and a Snake vignette

Hi all, Can't say I did it but this is what I could manage... This is the dark side... And this is the lighter side... I had to rework the donkeys eyes the second time so that he focused on the snake...which I painted as well... Hope you like what you see. Now to mate it with the Dio and...

Eehaw!!, a Donkey, a Bedouin and a Snake vignette

Hi guys, Spent half a day painting the Bedouin. I had to visualise the sun glow hitting his back and creating a bright haze at the edges before the shadows. So far okay but I will need to bring out the airbrush for the shadowed area on his front skirt to get a smoother flow. In my naked eye it...

    Rehashing Hurtgen forest diorama

I was about to weather my tanks again when I noticed huge gapping holes just behind the sprocket compliments of the battery operated kit that this was. Easily fixed with plastic sheets shaped to fit. Then I tried my hand with chipping fluid for the first time. Applying at first straight from...

Eehaw!!, a Donkey, a Bedouin and a Snake vignette

The experiment seems to have worked with paper masks... I had to create the shadow using an ordinary lamp bulb traced on typewriting paper placed flat and marked out the edges and dimensions of the base. LED lights didn't create the sharp shadows I needed...the ordinary bulb was more...

Eehaw!!, a Donkey, a Bedouin and a Snake vignette

Just trying some first passes of colour on the base...no detail painting yet. Kicked up dust still tweaking... Most people would have painted their figures before working on the base but I'm just weird. Cheers, Wabble

    Rehashing Hurtgen forest diorama

Hi Guys, I had the bulb in my head switched on and worked out how to distinguish the relieved troops from Patton's armoured division by making them outer perimeter scout patrols of the 101st. So they would have the overall olive drab top to bottom uniform with the baggy trousers pocket...

Eehaw!!, a Donkey, a Bedouin and a Snake vignette

Buried the snake and waiting for the plaster to cure. I will paint the snake in situ after detailing the disturbed sand... I'm heading to the Ardennes to continue with the 25 figures. Cheers, Wabble

Eehaw!!, a Donkey, a Bedouin and a Snake vignette

Hi All, Just smoothened the surface and got rid of any bumps and sinks. Also did the kicked up sand with cotton...very delicate process by adding tony bits at a time. Hope it's convincing at this angle... The little hole and pencil marks in the foreground is where the snake will be buried...

    Rehashing Hurtgen forest diorama

Today I did a first pass of paint with modulation for Shadows and highlights... The dark tones were olive drab mixed with black and the highlights olive drab with yellow and dark yellow. All Tamiya acrylics diluted heavily with Mr Levelling thinner. Then filtered with pure thinned olive drab...
