Masking.
I have some tapes from a certain cheap online seller, they work well, but as Jim says ; "It is important to allow the underlying paint to fully cure before masking. Also using a good primer does help to make the paint layer robust." They work well esp with Tamia paints that have dried fully.- John Race

Model makes.
Some of the Eastern block models are a bit odd, old moulds past their sell by date. Then you have Mini Art who take things to a different level. Plenty of choice these days.- John Race

Hi toto, I've done enough in the past, found the best way was to use one of those flat wide stainless steel plates as photo. Think I got these some time ago . I have also used this. Causes a lovely cracking effect. In no way was it a criticism , just a nother way. Yes if you get...- John Race
