    One advantage of the way Tim and Andy do it is that their PRV is within easy reach but not attached to the ab. My MAC is attached to the ab itself and is not a problem - 90% of the time. Occasionally though it's a nuisance having it part of the airbrush.

    Which airbrush would you buy?

    Yes. I line mine with newspaper or cheap brown paper - whatever you've got really. Bits of masking tape hold the paper in place. You don't get a lot of over spray on the sides and base, most is sucked through the filter, but the paper does keep things clean.

    Stupidly I didn't consider a generic filter roll. I just went with branded filters. It wouldn't be difficult to fit a new piece of filter material into the frame. I have just bought 3 and had one already so probably good for the next 3 or 4 years and by then I hope to have won the lottery and so...

    Colouring book is a good Idea. Only downside is that the paper is absorbent whereas model kits are not so you can get away with laying down more paint on the paper which would flood on a model. You've every right to be excited. If the hobby doesn't excite then you're in the wrong game 😁👍😁

    I was told by Benchvent that if the booth is vented to the outside a charcoal filter was not needed. The charcoal is only needed if you're recycling the air. THIS is what I use. Filters are not cheap!! :confused:

    I do very similar. Leave the compressor pressure set, higher than I would ever use, and adjust the pressure at the airbrush using a MAC valve. OK the MAC valve doesn't do exactly the same as a pressure reducing valve but it works fine for me. I don't actually know the pressure I'm working at but...

    They are certainly not cheap. I have recently spent £55.20 for three filters for my Benchvent. They will last me for at least 3 years but even so 🙄

    They are quality. The don't have a tank but Iwata seems to have overcome any pressure pulsing and they are very quiet and compact. When I bought my Sparmax I would have liked the Iwata but it was a fair bit more expensive. Should have bitten the bullet 🙄

    I have a good spray booth and check and change the filter in a timely manner. I don't wear a mask. Not saying I'm right or wrong. My wife shares the room for her sewing and she says she doesn't notice any chemical smells.

    I check my filter about every 6 to 8 weeks. I light one of those little tea light candles, blow it out and it makes smoke. Put it in the spray booth and if the smoke goes out I reckon it's working OK. Another check is to put a piece of A4 paper on the filter. If it sticks on OK, if it doesn't...

    Thanks for all your comments (y) I added the swell on the base. Just cut out and refined with one of those heated wire wand thingies. Added an edge with thin balsa sheets. Unfortunately the sheets I had were a bit short so had to have a join. Hopefully it wont show under paint. The balsa...
